Rumour

Swans want a big price tag.

Does Matt Grimes want to leave ?

She’s an Essex girl but from what I gather they love being here. He won’t be going anywhere and rightly so. Integral part of the club.

Are you sure about her, you gave incorrect information about Adama Sidibeh last week

Angela Grimes (nee James) and her family are from Saundersfoot, where she originates from doesn’t matter. That’s the reason Matt likes it in the area. They particularly wanted to stay when her grandparents Alwyn and Anne from the town were dying from cancer. That’s the main driver for them him staying in the area. Her family and of course football.

I'm not sure why everyone is so convinced that Franco will allow Grimes to play further forward. Fulton did that and still Grimes loved nothing more than cwtching up with him and our central defenders.

The way Grimes plays is not a personnel issue. It's a coaching one. He likes being cautious and defensive. Cooper and Martin liked him being cautious and defensive so indulged him. Potter and Duff demanded more, and we got it. When LW arrived he just lapsed back into his usual habits.

Williams needs to demand the same things as GP and MD did, otherwise all we're going to get is a repeat of what we saw for most of last season. Both our midfielders spending most of their time in our own defensive third.

I don’t think any of the managers let the players do as they want, they are coached to play in a balanced framework, sometimes it works sometimes not. For Grimes’ role to be effective there needs to be a more mobile player just in front and hopefully it’s the new signing. Equally as important is the need for quality attacking midfield to link up play otherwise the two holding midfielders are forced to become more defensive minded rather then the starters of quality offensive play.

Nobody said he was signing, but contact had been made, which you dismissed out of hand.

And now you are making a bit of a fool of yourself again concerning Matt's wife

Says who? Alan Nixon? Who also yesterday said Sheff Utd are interested in Matt Grimes, which of course they are not.

He's been here for nearly a decade, under a variety of coaches and with a multitude of midfield partners, and for 14-15 months tops of that time he's played like some people think that he's just gagging to do as long as he hasn't got Fulton alongside him. When we get to this stage it's pretty obvious that Jay Fulton is not the problem with Matt Grimes.

Even then he’s been head and shoulders our best midfielder apart from Downes who went for big money and Allen who never has a full 90 minutes in him.

No issue with selling Grimes, using him less or whatever, but let’s make sure we’ve got better at the club first.

He's been our best midfielder if you're the sort of person who thinks that endless, pointless ball recycling is of value.

Frankly I'm amazed that anyone is satisfied with what we've had from him for the most part when we saw at the start of last season what he's actually capable of.

Grimes playing like he did under Potter and 2/3 months of Duff? Absolutely, unquestionably as good as anyone else in the division. The rest of the time? Part of the problem, not the solution

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Because they play games and have massive ego's. Its important to them who is the highest earner and who has earned the most.

Or if you’re any of the managers we’ve had over the last six years.

There’s a reason he plays 50 games a season and it’s that he’s the best we’ve got. If Williams can get him to the level he was under Potter, fantastic. If he can’t, he’s not among the best in the division, but he’s certainly the best at the club.

He should only be an automatic choice while he’s our best midfielder. Hopefully Franco can do something about that.

This has been covered ad nauseum. His style of play suited Cooper and Martin, so he was very much a main reason why we have been so dull to watch for most of the last five years. He's a player you can imagine Gareth Southgate building a team around. Doesn't make him good, just more suitable than most for a particular style of play.

As it happens I believe him to be capable of a lot more, which is why I'm so hard on him when we only get fractions of it. That's partly down to coaching, and partly down to his own natural tendencies. As a fanbase we really need to stop pretending that what he's given us is good enough.

I know and I doubt we’ll ever agree on it. You’re arguing he can do better than he does, I’m arguing, even without reaching his potential, we haven’t had anyone better in 6 seasons (apart from Downes in Martins first season).

I’m not disputing your point. I don’t think you are disputing mine?

His style of play clearly suited Potter, Duff and Williams too.

As soon as we get two better central midfielders, or a combination that’s more effective without him, great, leave him out. It will happen eventually.

As our performances and rsults have clearly shown, we haven't been good enough and he is our star man? Boring games, pointlss passing, it was what certain managers wanted and thy kept telling us it was good, entertaining football and some people believe that.

I have a different idea.

Grimes has been an outstanding Swansea player for six seasons, hardly missing a game under various managers. His superb range of passing and football brain allows him to dictate games whilst he’s not the dynamic box to box midfielder that some may be confusing him with you need the right balance e within your midfield. This is why for example Declan Rice is so highly regarded.

Anyone who does not appreciate Grimes has little knowledge or real understanding of what’s required on that pitch. He’s not the complete player otherwise he’d be playing for Real Madrid but as Championship players go he’s one of the best undoubtedly, regardless of what system and formation is employed.

Only an idiot would eat a turkey curry on Christmas day

It’s pure insanity that we have extended his contract twice - he doesn’t offer us enough as a player and he’s not a leader and should never be captain. Let’s hope he has to sling his hook at the end of this current free meal ticket runs out.

I predict Franco is going to show him up for the mediocre midfielder he really is.
