There will be substantial ground improvements, including a 4G pitch.
Not been announced where Swansea CC will move to.

I think you’ll find it was Cardiff City Council that wrote off a lot of the Sophia Gardens costs.
St Helens is a poor ground, it was a terrible ground when I watched cricket there back in the day. Operating 2 stadiums is a costly so it comes down to prioritising and Sophia Gardens won. I think if offers so much more than St Helens. |
It is not that costly operating two stadiums most of the cost running St Helens was not bourne by Glamorgan. They pay a relatively small match high fee. The match day costs were more than covered by local sponsorship and generous donations by the balconies.
What Glamorgan did lose when they reduced championship games to Sunday league games to 1 a season was large gate receipts and membership from Swansea postcodes including Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. Once there were 5000 Glamorgan members in the area now less than a couple 100.
A loss of membership income of over £500,000 a year.
The Cardiff area membership has not increased either despite more games.
The development of Sophia Gardens nearly bankrupted the club as income from infrequent test matches never reached Glamorgans estates.
They were only saved from bankruptcy by Cardiff City Council and the Glamorgan chairmen writing of millions in loans as well as a financial bale out from the ECB. | |

Us being home for 2 matches over Christmas didn't help the Ospreys as we have priority on days. Next year will be different as the fixture will revert to the normal boxing day irrespective to whether we are home the same day or not. | | | |

Well it shows the WRU have all but destroyed the fanbase for rugby. Several years back the place would have been full to the rafters with more people wanting tickets.
Football crowds have dropped a bit but tonowhere near the same degree as rugby.
If the WRU culls the Ospreys they may as well close the whole shoddy edifice down because when the most succesful region gets culled, what is the point? Can you imagine any other sport in any country deciding to cull a team and then choose the historically best team as the victim? It would just look like a spot of sports gerrymandering, get the )'s out of the way so Cardiff have a chance. | | | |

It needed change, agreed BUT it was the manner of the change that was the problem. If we were to have regions they should have had proper regions and not left Cardiff and Llanelli alone.
I have heard this many times from proper rugby fans, fans who choose not to follow a region too. They say we should have left the clubs to stand in a league structure and put 2, maybe 3 regions in with the clubs based in those regions feeding the senior side.
The suggestion was to Have South East and South West Wales, some felt we should have a region covering the rest of Wales but based up North.
What the WRU did was half assed, it pandered to Cardiff and the Turks but really cheesed off most other rugby fans.
It has nothing to do with a negative mindset either, the rugby fans wanted better but were given dross, the negative mindset belonged to the WRU who even now, when talking about ditching a region never suggest Cardiff or Llanelli but always talk about the other two and one of them is historically the most succesful region, the Ospreys.

Only Cardiff and Llanelli are standalone, they kept their names, the Ospreys and th Dragons were the only 2 actual regions and the fans of Neath and Swansea were bitter about that.
It's something you never understand or accept, when something is done in a shoddy, mediocre or bad way, people won't like it.
The product is poor and that is down to the WRU and their silly rules as much as the regions. The caps rule along with the financial cuts have driven players out of Wales. That has affected the quality at regional and international level.
The logic isn't faulty and the mindset isn't what you claim it to be, it's not timid or negative. They are striving to improve, they want to take control of their own stadium and how it's run. | | | |
