Is Smyth turning into a super sub who can really impact a game in the last 15 mins as he did Vs Watford or can he do that out wide for 90mins?

If he can I'd play Willock (im sticking with him) and Smyth out wide, Chair at No.10 and split the No.9 role between Dykes and Armstrong.

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

Ideally the rules would allow for 100 outfield substitutes so that our lot could each play 10 minute cameos and subsequently look half decent.

Being a super sub for us requires putting your shorts on the right way round.

He would be a super sub ... if he could provide an assist or goal.

Pace and work rate is brilliant. Get's into great places but he doesn't have the end product. Even his assist vs Watford was deflected.

Exciting though. Good to have a winger with pace attacking the FB every time.

He’s scored a goal and provided an assist in the last two league games.

He should start every game ahead of Willock: Sunday confirmed the differences in attitude, desire and application between the two. Amazed people are sticking with someone who phones it in and is running down his contract: as a bare minimum we need as many players who will fight to the end to avoid relegation.

Thought his end product on Sunday was very good, got his assist, could have had others if the forwards anticipated better.

Of course problem is his end product is inconsistent. But then if it was consistent he wouldn't be with us.

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

One of the few positives in a bleak season. Do we have a song for him out of interest?

*edit - please nothing about “taking us to the premier league”. Taking us to the pub league maybe.

It gives a bit of a false impression when coming on fresh and playing against an opponent who has already played 60 mins.

He put in a peach of a low cross on Sunday, and our strikers (lol) and midfield all stood and admired from a great distance. There should be at least five players busting a bollock to get on the end of those sort of balls

Agree 100%.

I really rate Willock and, in fairness, I thought he did ok on Sunday and may still be struggling with injury physically and/or mentally. However, he clearly isn't very interested and the contrast with Smyth's application is clear.

However, I think League One is Smyth's level and is one of the reasons we'll be playing there next season. Of course, the lack of a good striker is the main reason and has been from day one of the season.

Suffering since 1978.

Smyth and Armstrong need to start because for their lack of accuracy, their pace and movement bends opposition out of shape. The problem is a lot of the rest of attack either don't have the work rate to get involved or prefer to pissball around after they've made space

It was indeed a great ball, but as I said in the match thread - if he looks up and sees no-one has kept up with him and made it into the box, what the fk is the point of just slinging it in there regardless?

QPR - "shit but local"

Smyth gets the ball and always looks for the positive option to either take on his man or cross it compared to most of his colleagues who look to pass it backwards or sideways as quickly as possible.
If he takes on the defender and gets the space to cross he has the right to assume some of his colleagues have bothered getting in the area to support him.

One thing I've noticed is he rarely looks up before crossing and that's probably why its rare his crosses actually result in a chance. He may have put a few roughly in the right / dangerous area and is being lauded because that's such a rarerity. He either needs to learn to look up and pick out, or he needs to hit the same 3 spots with consistent accuracy and the attckers can make runs to thos spots
