Met him about 40 years ago, chatted for 5/10 mins, ok bloke. Music wasn't exactly my cup of tea but the last of the 'mob connected ' singers. I'd make a musical reference but I'll be fcked if I can remember anything.
He was a huge star… RIP. I was more interested in the jazzier singers of that era like the unheralded ( in this country ), Buddy Greco. I have a few Bennet albums though, one with Nina Simone if my memory serves me well. I'll dig them out and play tomorrow.

'They even shot Tommy in the face so his mother couldn't give him an open coffin at the funeral.... It was among the Italians. It was real greaseball shit.'
RIP Mr Benedetto.

He was my favourite of that era of jazz/swing singers.
Not that I owned any albums of his!

Not really my bag either, but I saw him perform at the Albert Hall some years back and even in his 80s his voice was still better than most in their prime. The end of an era.
A few years ago I was sitting in the Jools studio propped up on an amp when he came in for a sound check/rehersal. I closed my eyes not expecting much, he started off how you'd expect an 80 something to sound then BOOM he let rip on some notes and me and the amp shook.
Made me realise how good he must have been in his prime.
RIP

Ah an absolute vocal legend, even Frank Sinatra said he was the best vocalist he knew. Blessed to see him at Glastonbury in 1998. His last work was duetting with Lady Gaga, he truly spanned the last eight decades of popular music: remarkable. RIP Sir.

There were so many great Italian American singers - Tony of course, Louis Prima, Dean Martin, Buddy Greco and I'm sure others that I can't think of at the moment. I'm sure some of the ladies had Italian blood.
