The Roman Empire fascinates me, anything WW1 & WW2. Welsh history is extremely complicated but worth digging into, most history can grip me to be honest.

I miss Thayers Ice Cream, it was a nice alternative to Joes back in the day, I fondly remember the shop in Swansea market and the outlet in the Uplands, beautiful Ice Cream, They say all things come to an end, Sad very sad in all so many ways, this getting older isn't all its cracked up to be

yep, I'm mostly the same. Rome but the Norse too, WW2. I was watching Nazi megastructures this morning and what they built in 4 years was truly incredible. Imagine if they'd been building for good reasons? Welsh history is an abject lesson in self destruction, it's why we couldn't beat off the Englsih, we were too busy fighting amongst ourselves! WW1 doesn't grip me as much as WW2 but I think that's because of my Grandpa, I don't know of any personal connections to WW1 though they must be there. Our family history seems to start in the 1920's, no one knows much of it before then, it died with our grandparents who never passed much info on, it seems.

Oh yes, I’d happily give my wife a kidney, all the money she wants, would jump in the way of a savage dog and would take a beating to protect her….but she can … off my salt and pepper chips or curry I get irrationally annoyed

If anyone is in North West London, I strongly recommend a visit to the regency club (Queensbury station at the Stanmore end of the Jubilee line). Unreal how good it is!

Never tried a bhuna, think I'll order a curry in the next few weeks. Just remembered someone recommended the cinnamon tree so may give that a whirl., although that mumbai looks nice.

It’s done as a joke. Got in the local paper. Brilliant advertising. Restaurant says ‘do not order this curry, if you do, sign this and kiss your arse goodbye” As father Ted says ‘great bunch of lads’

I was the same regarding WW1, once I did my family tree I found 4 Great Uncles who were killed during the period and have made a vow to visit their graves or memorials, though one is in Baghdad which is somewhat problematic. Went on my first WW1 battlefield tour earlier this year and it really gripped me, especially visiting the Somme and Mametz. Booked another for March.

I want to do Normandy, I guess I could do a family tree and see what turns up. I'd like to go to Tobruk because I know my grandpa was there. I got interested in the Norse after reading abut the Varangian Guard in Byzantium.

Too right. What is this obsession with sharing takeaways. "If you want some of a particular dish, order your own !" should be a law
