| Why do we play this way on 12:31 - Oct 20 by Dr_Parnassus | Well you would have to join me in a time machine if you want to do that. However if you had one I would suggest we attend more pressing matters of interest. I assure you that’s what happened. You can insist I’m lying if you like, but it won’t change what happened. |
Good exchanges between you two We should have been having these exchanges after so created the thread which was a basis for discussion Again…why do we play as we do ? We have enough to slaughter teams and not just hang on in there

I’ll go with my naked eye on this one. I’ll also predict that other teams will come to us looking to robustly park the bus and when they do, our possession, long ball and pass completion stats will be more akin to Martinball v1 than v2. Until we score of course, when they have to come out and allow us to play the football we’ve been playing lately.

That’s your choice of course, but remember whenever we have had these discussions before, the data has always won the day. Whether it has been Naughtons position, Cabango’s runs, possession data, individual player numbers - every time the eye test has insisted it’s correct only to be shown it’s anything but, the likelihood of this being any different is slim to none. The only difference being in this instance, we don’t have the sufficient time jumping tech to show physically show you like the others. But I assure you it’s the case.

Yes, but there’s no data this time. I defy anyone at the ground on Tuesday to tell me the way both teams played didn’t change after the equaliser. Probably harder to notice when you are splitting your time between watching the game, watching data and posting on the match thread. It will happen again. Reading won’t be the last team to play like that.

There is data, we just can’t time jump you back to show you. Tactics may well have changed, styles of play may have had minor tweaks, the odd minute or two may have had heavier than others passages of play - that’s normal, and is what usually clouds the eye test. But in reality, it was all very similar, roughly speaking.

| Why do we play this way on 14:29 - Oct 20 with 292 views | RichardO | Just had a little look at the last 8 or 9 games and one thing stands out the inclusion or exclusion of Ollie Cooper has significantly altered or impacted the games whether positively with his inclusion and negatively with his exclusion. We have won games were he has started or come on to change the game. We have lost games or dropped points when he has not been included from the start or taken off. The only exception would be the Burnley game when he did finally come on we were already 4-0 down. Not saying he is the only one who makes the difference others like Cundle, Oko Flex, the loss of Manning affect the game but "the way we play" when he is on the pitch seems to end in positive results.
