I didn’t mean it to come across like that and apologise. There’s been a number of helpful posts in this thread that expand on the simple points I put across, particularly in relation to reducing expenditure.
I agree it’s not realistic for people to be doing the kinds of jobs you’ve listed into an older age, and there isn’t a direct alternative for them. They will probably have to consider different industries when they can no longer do that role. It’s not nice, and tbh employers should take more responsibility in preparing their staff for moving on when that time comes. If the finances were there for people they of course wouldn’t have to do it, but as finances are getting worse more will. The government will offer some help in this crisis but almost certainly not enough, so anything people can do to help themselves will be worthwhile. My posts are mostly a response to some behaviours I am seeing day to day (not online), people in denial of what’s to come and unprepared to take action now to help themselves for what’s ahead. |

It's been quoted even middle income earners will be affected not just the poor buggers at the lower end | |

I find it staggering that Johnson has been on holiday. He refused to stand away from the job, but has been abroad for the past month.
All three of them could and should have got together and worked out a strategy. We’re lucky, we’ll be ok, but people are desperately worried.
Kate Hoey MP saying people should just wear extra jumpers, Zahawi talking about people cutting back on energy, Johnson saying people in Ukraine are losing their lives, as if this is part of the war effort.

A Government paralysed by indecision whilst they spend the best part of two months trying to replace themselves doesn't help either.
I suspect that eventually they'll limit the price cap rise and offer the energy companies Government backed loans instead, but energy is key. It's driving every other rise and the bill that's scaring people the most. |

This isn't a great reset, it's a great rip off.
We are lucky, that lucky coming about having hit hard times 16 years back and ending up in an IVA after both of us lots jobs due to ill health. We fought back, got our health and our finances back into a good place, even the incredible rise in utility prices isn't going to break us, if gas and electricity hit 500 a month we can still just about manage because we can make cuts elsewhere.
If it really comes down to it I'll sell the car and buy a bike, I can still get to work that way. We can stop going to the Swans too. My son can walk to school, just those things would save us 600 a month! That first month buys a good bike! | |
