Be CAREFUL what you WISH for 12:16 - Apr 11 with 3679 viewsnumptydumpty

Many posters here are calling for a change of manager.

Have been upset by recent run of form and the manager is far from blameless.

Have said that before myself.

But those stating get rid...

Up and till end January, many were saying keep this man at our club for a long time.

Ie everything was progressing nicely.

Yes our results have been poor since.

But take these into consideration

New goalie nearly every other game. A consistent man behind the defence is key but for us to have lost six, well that is unbelievably unfortunate. It will have unbalanced the defence each time also.

Beyond this we keep losing key players for long periods. There have been many.

People say go back to last season.

Well practically all season we had zero injuries to key first eleven players.

Our squad cannot cope with consistent changes due to loss of key personnel.

But to blame Warburton fully for all of this is also harsh.

I not agreed with the January transfer window business to me it was all wrong and showed the club to be blatantly lacking ambition.

If that was down to Mark Warburton I would be very surprised.

More likely to be Ferdinand and Hood doing.

So those that are knee jerking big time.

Remember we replaced Warnock with Mark Hughes and we replaced Holloway with McClaren.

As said be CAREFUL what you WISH for.

Because the ones that maybe the ones that prevented adequate squad cover replacements and key personnel to be added to in January window, would also then be the ones selecting the new heir apparent.

And THEY won't be spending BIG BUCKS on this REPLACEMENT.

So, I thought about this.

If the losing run continues to the end of the season and Warbs looks like he has no obvious answers to change it, then they won't renew him.

Then I thought, well they will only do that if they have a suitable replacement and I deduced that they do not .... until I realised they do!

Eustice will replace him, it's time and he has earned the chance to have a go. Also, it was his idea to rip up the squad when Warbs first joined. He knows the club, players and management. This will be an easy appointment and cheap for the board.

If Warbs continues to fail, then Eustice I would guess would be our manager next season.

zzzzzzzzzz

Eustace seems like the logical choice and one I'd be happy with, my only reservation is whether it'll have any impact considering that he's part of the current set up. Both he and us might be better off going for different options.

Yep - grass is always greener, etc.

Depends on who/if the club has viable alternatives lined up.

Given all the work he has done, I think Warbs deserves another season. My only concern looking at the last two months is the mental strength of the players because that is something that hasn't been fixed by him or the coaching staff.

Eustace has always been his own man though - see his caretaker period after assisting McClaren, deffo wasn't continuity then

Yeah we should definitely get rid of the only manager who has taken us forward with limited resources. Perhaps joey Barton or Paul Hart hasn't done much for a while Vladimir put in maybe looking for something new come august

I think Eustace will take over at the end of the season.
Warburton has done brilliantly on a limited budget but we could be looking at 10 losses since the start of February. It's not a good look.
Injuries and loss of form have hurt us badly though.

Extend his contract for two years. Stability is the key

That's a good point about Eustace being his own man. I'm also of the opinion that there's a good chance that his appointment could have little impact. More importantly If it does then what next?

It depends on what the expectations of the club are. If Eustace is required to finish top 6, same as Warburton, then that's a big ask for a manager in his first high profile job. If that's not the requirement then what is? Mid table? Staying up? Would our fan base be happy with that? It's a tricky one.

Sorry, how do you know it was his idea to rip up the squad?
not having a go, but it's a bold statement spoken with confidence....

Warburton deserves next season to have another crack at top 6 (and, let's be honest, not many were even remotely expecting top 6 this season anyway).

Onwards and upwards

Warbs said when he came in his initial idea was to maybe turnover half a dozen players from McClaren's squad but Eustace got hold of him and said whether you're keeping me or not, don't put your faith in this squad, get rid of as many as possible, which is why he ended up doing 16 in and out that summer.

The problem I have with all this, and not I'm alone obviously, is not having a proper understanding of what has gone wrong.

We were so good for such a long period there have to be explanations, whether valid or not, as to how we've got into this shocking lack of form. We can't possibly know what those are, and probably shouldn't, but they need to be the basis of a serious conversation in the next few weeks.

If there are concrete, plausible explanations and clear ideas about how to fix them for next season then, based on how good we were before it all turned to shit, I think it would be wise to see if Warbs can get things back on course. If not, or even if those conversations go badly, then maybe that's that?

Related to that, the manager is ultimately accountable, that's clear but a few areas need looked at over the last few weeks: What's happened with the strength and conditioning? What's going on with the coaching? Banfield is hugely respected but does he need to look at some of what's been worked on with the players? We all know the comments about Arsenal being guilty of trying to walk the ball into the net.

More questions than answers obviously but it does need a proper serious discussion rather than a reaction based on the here and now - we're not supposed to be that club anymore.

i agree with brooklyn , what did go wrong? so quickly? we know of injuries, was it poor tactics? unable to adapt a plan b ? afcon? lack of commitment from the board to invest in players to get us over the line into p/offs? rows in the squad? no bonuses?
cos we dried up and fell away so easily when so close to 2nd spot!

I think if we are honest we have been punching above our weight most of the season and nicking games where we were perhaps second best.
I'm not sure where we go from here as despite all ths good work since Warbs came in I have been hugely disappointed in the January signings of Hendrick and Virgil van Sanderson and their continued place in the team. It was clear to us all we needed some added impetus up front. Not sure who its down to but if not Warbs then surely we keep him.
