Spanish flu affected the young and able bodied. The first wave was't particularly bad, but the second wave was devastating. You are correct about aspirin.
There are comparisons today. Trump, Boris Bolsonara etc all denying covid, just as happened in 1918. Big rallies , football matches, concerts etc. Presidents and prime ministers shaking hands with covid patients
