Drakeford No Back To Normal 2021 on 18:31 - Apr 1 by exhmrc1 | Here is a headline from the Daily Express today https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1417392/chris-whitty-news-boris-johnson-whiteh Prof Whitty reportedly clashed with the Prime Minister in February over the easing of lockdown. Mr Johnson's hopes to reopen schools quickly were met with resistance from Prof Whitty, according to The Guardian's sources. He was said to be “very unhappy” with the idea of all 10 million children and staff returning to schools in England on March 8, although the Government denied this and insisted that Prof Whitty was not opposed to any of the options being discussed. |
That is precisely the story Prof Whitty himself expressly called a lie in a press conference, and Vallance has also confirmed that the road map is agreed by SAGE. So, you have no proof to backup that statement? In fact, you said Whitty just does what Johnson tells him to and then post links showing he doesn't. Of course there is disagreement, it is essential in decision making, the only place there doesn't seem to be disagreement is in Cardiff Bay because the only voice is the slow speaking drolll of Drakeford. Have you found a barmaid yet who's wages you'll top up? I can find one for CJ too if you want. [Post edited 1 Apr 2021 21:05]

You say that like it's something to be concerned about. A roomfull of people will not always agree. It'd be more of a problem if they did.

https://committees.parliament.uk/oralevidence/1845/html/ That's a report from the committee confirming that sage agree with the English road map. It confirms that Drakeford is ignoring the science. You've called for Boris to follow the science so what has changed? No media sensational nonsense needed, that's fact. Of course there'll be disagreements there's nearly 100 people on sage. Further more, apparently keeping the 5 mile rule was correct in Wales until July last year. This year it was the second thing to be relaxed and that was right too. Doesn't sound like following the science to me? Anyway, have you found a barmaid /waiter/personal trainer to subsidise yet? I can help.

It wasnt my policies that put people into lockdown for months. It was the ones that you were advocating. Opening pubs gyms and having the Air Bridges that you backed wholeheartedly. Prior to these the figures were dropping. After these they rocketed and loads ended up in lockdown which could have been avoided had we been stricter. You argued all last year for us to follow Johnson's policies. Well we did so take responsibility for what has happened because of it.

They were Johnson AND Drakefords policies. We could not stay in lockdown to even consider it is beyond stupid. We should be following the same road map as England, absolutely following it to the letter. Not because it is written by the tories but because it is backed by SAGE. So are you prepared to support someone who you and Drakeford want to keep in poverty against scientific advice?

Drakeford No Back To Normal 2021 on 16:35 - Apr 1 by Scotia | It's not some sort of morbid Wales v England competition. The sole reason we are in a better position now is because the Kent variant was not dominant before we were in lockdown, Drakeford lucked out there as we had already reached the point of having the highest level of infection in the world with the original variant. Some people won't recover from poverty, and keeping business closed is keeping some of the poorest people in poverty. What do you think bar staff, restaurant and gym staff earn? Almost certainly minimum wage, they are now earning 20% less than that for no scientific reason. They are earning that just for Drakeford to appear different. |
I do feel for those with those who are earning less, but my sympathies are with the NHS workers and others who have to deal with covid every day. It's impossible to keep everyone happy, but Drakeford has done his best to try and keep deaths and cases as low as possible, and he has kept his dignity and integrity throughout Boris on the other hand has been totally negligent, even shaking hands with covid patients and then getting it himself. What a contrast with the way Drakeford has handled this compared to Boris.

Drakeford wasnt the person responsible for opening the UKs borders and letting people come back infected and passing it on to others. He wasnt responsible for the eat out scheme which even Tory ministers are now saying was a mistake as it fuelled the increase. Gusss who was openly backing and encouraging both policies. These were the issues that put millions of others on furlough. It is no good trying to pass the back. It was your backing of Johnson's policies and it is those policies that led to lockdown. If we are sensible we will prevent this happening again and not rushing to do things that make matters worse. Wales opened schools more slowly and havent had the same effect as in England. Your mates Johnson, Whitty and Vallance are saying it was the reason for the increase and the very same reason Drakeford decided to open schools in 3 phases. Reopening schools ‘almost certainly’ responsible for Covid rate uptick among young people — PM

Of course Drakeford is responsible, he could have refused eat to help out, closed Cardiff Airport or brought in quarantine. That's just blaming Boris when Drakeford is equally to blame. Drakeford backed those policies too. So have you decided who you are going to supplement their furloughed wages for? Just for the month they are being kept earning 20% less than someone over the border. And Drakeford is supposed to be a socialist, I wonder if he's taking a 20% pay cut?

Says another who believes in a policy that led to millions being put out of work that could have been prevented. It is no coincidence that Wales has the highest vaccination rate and lowest rates of the virus in the UK. What about all the hairdressers in England who are looking on at hairdressers in Wales being able to trade or caravan parks or hotels there that are kept shut over Christmas whilst their Welsh counterparts are able to make money. This isnt about me however much you foolishly state. It is about all the people who have died and become seriously ill but then you just show how little regard you have for them. 2 days ago England had over 3 times the number of new cases Wales did. You seem very happy that so many more people have become ill in England than Wales. I am not and preventing this is central to my beliefs. Whatever is needed to prevent that needs to be done and that should be central to everything we do.

You just have to accept that the views of someone who is on a generous civil service pension and a state triple lock pension, with the security involved will have a different opinion on the current situation. Add to that you state that you have been shielding so not actively keeping the country going, just banging away at a keyboard stating stats without understanding what is happening in the real world. Your views could therefore differ from someone who has been on furlough for nearly a year on 80% of the minimum wage and does not even know if they have a job to go back to. Your opinion could also differ from someone who has been a key worker, not necessarily NHS who has worked tirelessly through this pandemic an taken all the shit that goes with it. Your views could also differ from single people working from home with no opportunity to socialise and build a future. Yes you have your opinion but accept the opinion of others. Remember that youngsters are a low risk of serious illness but have put up with a lot to keep the older generation alive. Finally you continually knock Johnson and yes he has made major mistakes. But if he didn't have the foresight to order the vaccines and instigate the rollout, we would not be coming out of lockdown in Wales now. You are praising Drakeford for this, you really need to have a good hard look at yourself, appreciate what you have and how lucky you are and leave the rest of us to try and get this country back on its feet.

People having different views doesnt alter the facts. Last year when I was saying that pubs should remain closed and borders kept closed Scotia was backing Johnson's policies which led to the current lockdown and I wasnt in lockdown at that time. Other countries acted differently and because of their firm actions suffered very few deaths. We should have learned from past mistakes and good practices elsewhere. Had we done that we would not have been in lockdown millions would have remained in jobs and students would have been able to continue their studies. If that is what I wanted and you dont then we will disagree over it. It was pretty evident from the figures that when Wales was opening up certain things didnt cause increased cases and others did. Any sensible person would learn from that but you and others dont want to because it doesnt help the Anti Drakeford agenda. When schools and non essential retail opened the figures didnt rise. Nor did they when hairdresser and tourism opened. From the moment people came back from holidays infected and spread it through pubs and houses the number of cases rocketed and led to us going into 2 lockdowns. This massive increase started when schools were closed and students werent here yet you want to do the same thing again. We are already seeing increases in part of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. These are due to people not following rules and not in student rules. This is despite having vaccines and is occurring mainly in younger groups. Vaccines havent been the only reason cases have fallen. Cases have fallen quicker in Wales than England. Why because the Welsh Government acted quicker and more firmly than the UK government did. Don't you understand nobody wants to do the same thing again? We have to do the same thing again. There is no option. These people on furlough, these businesses that are closed and these tourists that can't come here pay taxes which pay for the NHS, pay for the vaccine and pay you. That's before you consider people's wellbeing. Covid isn't going anywhere so it has to be done as safely as possible, we've got the vaccines now so there's no excuse. SAGE are confident that the English road map is cautious and safe, there is no need for Wales to be even more cautious over random things and less cautious over others. Us being different smacks of WG justifying their existence.

Claims that Wales had offered vaccines to all over 50s have been disputed as scores of people are still waiting to be called . Perhaps PHW records are not upto date. Wonder if Drakeford or Vaughan guessing jumped the gun without checking first.
