The News on 11:29 - Dec 27 by felixstowe_jack | In the last couple of days I have seen news articles from Wales mentioning that the army has been called in to help the Welsh Ambulance service and Wales' biggest hospital has appealed for volunteers as they are being overwhelmed by the coronavirus epidemic. Meanwhile Drakeford has complained about the trade deal with the EU despite Wales voting to leave. He also complains he does not have as much access to Johnson as he did with May. Perhaps he has not noticed that Johnson has a country to run with the virus his priority as well as getting a free trade deal with the EU done in less than a year. Perhaps Drakeford should concentrate on sorting out the things under his control and less time than moaning. |
It is common occurence here to see North Wales Ambiwlans flying across the peninsular to the Liverpool hospitals for specialist treatment. Without the Brain/Heart/Cancer /Childrens specialism that Liverpool hospitals have north Wales would suffer horrendously. I imagine it would be the same in mid Wales with the Midlands providing specialist care. Right now,Wales needs to be even closer to England and what it offers

The News on 18:01 - Dec 26 by felixstowe_jack | Probably because we have both lived in both countries and have seen politics from all sides. I have lived in wales most of my life but having moved to England with work have seen how progressive policies create wealth and lead to everyone getting a better standard of living. While in Wales labour hate to see anyone bettering themselves. They are happy to close decent schools and inflict lower education standards on the people. Meanwhile the champainge socialist send their children to the best private schools. |
The education gap isn’t as simple as that, Felix. There’s a lot of research into the attainment gap at GCSE between England and Wales that indicates it’s skewed by the larger % of multi ethnic children in England. These children tend to perform better at GSCE. Reduced immigration post Brexit could lead to the gap narrowing. However changes to the curriculum coming in Wales (in my opinion) will see the gap remain or even widen.
The News on 20:55 - Dec 27 with 780 views | AndyCole | The BBC News App was ditched a long time ago, just when the BBC lost its way and pandered meekly to the meek. Ditched along with any short-form mass media news digest. Far better nowadays to go deep and wide with a couple of well balanced sources such as The Economist for the unbiased facts and The Spectator for rational common sense.

The Spectator is a good read, and I once, briefly, subscribed to it. But, basically, it clearly supports the Conservative Party, and as such is not particularly well-balanced. If you're tired of "diversity and inclusivity", abhor the PC brigade, despise the trendy BBC etc. you'll love it. Not for me, though.

It s for that reason I never read The Guardian or the Mirror.

Quite agree the figures also show children of Caribbean heritage perform worse than white British while children of African heritage perform far better than average. It think it says more about the aspirations the parents have for their children than the education system itself.

Totally agree. Our greatest national problem is raising kids to believe the world owes them a living no matter how uneducated ,lawless or feckless they might be. If we imbued our girls with a desire for edication, they could study to be nurses so then we wouldnt have to import them from all over the world. The girls coming from those place feel honoured to work in the NHS while many of ours are simply looking forward to get humped and get a flat in a sink estate so that the State can look after them -forever.

Girls outperform boys at pretty much every level at GCSE. Whatever they choose to do next, they are not electing to go into nursing hence the need for immigration to hold the system up. They question is why aren’t enough choosing to go into nursing to meet the demand?

I’ve got a mate who I used to play Sunday league with who is a nurse at Great Ormand Street. Lovely fella but an absolute animal once he’d crossed the white line. It used to make us chuckle when he’d take someone out so badly that he’d be the only person at the match with the skills to treat the bloke he’d just mangled!

I am involved with interviewing candidates for the nursing degree at Swansea University. We have 15% male candidates which has been constant for a number of years. Incidentally there are now more females studying to be doctors in the UK than males now.

Because it’s relatively low paid considering you work long unsociable hours and it’s highly stressful.

How do you know this ? On the surface, you seem to have a very low opinion of our young women. And I must say that its not an opinion i share. I think our young people have so much more to offer than my generation ever did, for example.

It's the same in the construction industry, but reversed. One of the best apprentices I've seen over the past 10 years, was a female carpenter. A good carpenter can earn twice that of a nurse as well.
