What is a smog / smoggie / smoggy ?
This is a Boro term given to them whenever that happened. Probably when they had steelworks and jobs. It probably happened in the past, and was considered an offensive term until Steve Gibson took over the club and wouldn’t sign a manager unless his name was Brian. Most people who live in Middlesbrough are called Brian. Like Clough but not as talented. Boro folk have their own vocabulary which is called a name.

You too can speak smog
Saying “like” after everything
Every word ending in 'ter' being replaced with an 'a' — butter, matter, batter etc
"Ee-ya mate" Means Ee-ya mate, can ya go in the shop for us?
Tickle my bum ya get. Means I’m a bit fruity but I’m still hard.
"Yerjokinarnyer?" - The response when answering the point above.
"Nithered" - I’m a tad cold.
"Giz a croggy" Can ya Giz a croggy over the border mate? Me bike's been nicked.
Can you please let me ride on the handlebars of your bike while you pedal to the other side of town friend? My bike has been stolen.

A lot of things get stolen in the Boro of smog, like Townhill or Prestonpans.

Boro fans like to be a bit tasty, not like a food taster but like a pretty difficult to fight sort of man ( and woman) due to the fact they are hard as a hard thing. Biffa Bacons ma wasn’t from Middlesbrough, so she would have probably beaten them all up.

Top 5 Boro facts
1. Sex was banned in Middlesbrough in 1964.
2. Most people go to Newcastle for sex due to the fact it’s in Sunderland. Anyone who has been to the big market will vouch for this. Or cattle market as smoggies refer to it.
3. Boro has five sex shops that sell everything from aubergines to flaky cheese.
4. A flaky bellend is what most men have in Middlesbrough. Nobody knows why but rumour and speculation will tell you it’s because of the cheese.
5. The oldest person to have sex in Middlesbrough was Dorothy Twerp who saddled fifteen men in Redcar last Sunday. She is 99.

Dorothy Twerp when she was 82 ready for a romantic night out in Redcar

And there’s a game too ...

Match facts

1. Middlesbrough have lost six of their last nine matches against Swansea in all competitions (W1 D2).

2. Swansea have won their last three league matches against Middlesbrough, their best winning run against them.

3. Neil Warnock has won six of his nine home Football League matches against Swansea City (D2 L1), winning with Scarborough, Notts County, Huddersfield, Crystal Palace and QPR.

4. Swansea’s Andre Ayew has been directly involved in four goals in two league appearances against Middlesbrough (3 goals, 1 assist).

5. Middlesbrough have won four of their seven home games in the Championship this season (D2 L1), only two fewer than the Teesiders managed under Jonathan Woodgate through the majority of last season (6 wins in 20 games).

Teams to follow.

It's too easy for the passive supporter to lazily criticise and not offer alternatives, solutions. Plenty of this in this thread for understandable reasons in some cases, but certainly not all.

Some supporters are only happy when they can vent. Even when we're winning.

A proper fan will always look for the positives, something to fix and build upon for the next outing. Empathetic with the coaching team. What would I do to learn from this and kick on ? Plenty of examples of this too on this thread thank heck.

For Luton - Grimes to start, Bidwell and Nauts back and go gung ho with Dhanda and Palmer behind Ayew and Lowe (as per discussion in other thread). And massively up the tempo to get some zip again.

We give them that. Dhanda should of come on instead of Routledge at half time. The team Cooper picked was all wrong from the get go.

Dhanda should have started. Be starting.

He's the one midfielder we've got who is prepared to take a chance on creating something. The one midfielder who can beat a man.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I'd agree with that but even so, I thought Ayew was poor tonight. Gyokeres...I'd best hold my tongue.
What really peeves is the number of times we slowed the attack down giving Boro time to get back. We didn't get into their box until they had 9 players there. They just crowded us out.
Our passing was terrible mind, sometimes we couldn't even manage a 5 yard pass.

Ayew was very poor. The stats guy on twitter put his touch map on last night and him and Lowe were coming deep all the time to get the ball, I blame that on Grimes not starting personally. We couldn't get hold of the ball in midfield and they played off scraps.

I've calmed down a bit now, but the chance Vik squandered was unforgivable, not because he missed the target, because he had his back to goal, had a few seconds to see a picture in front of him of Routledge with a tap in, and instead tries a shot on the turn, lets not all pretend if Lowe had done that there wouldn't be carnage on here. To be honest, I'm starting to think Badlands may have had a point in the thread regarding Jazz. Genuinely.

I reckon Cooper fell into the trap of playing big strong players because we were up against a Neil Warnock side.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

A Warnock ide that again does a number on us.
The irony of our fans slagging off Warnock and Pulis is truly ironic. They know exactly how to play us.

Very genuine points. I’m not sure Jazz will be the answer though, as I mentioned in the post match report Cooper got out thought by an old head who knows his stuff. It was a lesson for Cooper, he should learn much from it.

Well,I'm still upset and confused a I was warming a little to Steve but then ,when we are trying to increase the temp,he brings on Routledge. That means, offside and passing balls straight to opposition or into touch. Quite why he was given another contract shows or recruitment is the real reason for our problems.

We apparently were looking at VG for months ;what did they see in him then?

We took on Woodman again. I really can't say any more about this fella except he lacks the basics, including simple courage.

Dhanda is a shining light at the moment though and I hope Cooper doesnt do a Celina on him.

Is Steve still a favourite for the Derby job?

As you said Keith, Cooper was out thought last night by Warnock.

Warnock employed a very old Italian style "man marking system" last night, something a relatively young coach like Cooper wouldn't come up against very often, if ever.

I hope it's been a good lesson he's learnt from 2 very experienced managers in the past 2 matches in Pu!is and Warnock.

Lessons he should have learnt - "There's more than one way to skin a cat"

Routledge was offside once as was Gorky, his pass accuracy was greater than Dhanda's and he created more half chances than any other play ... no one created a clear cut scoring opportunity
I'd start Routs every game and from central attacking midfield.
When Cabango went off we lost all our shape in defence and Grimes for Fulton just allowed a big path of nothing to open up for Boro to exploit.
I'd definitely rest Manning, Lowe, Woodman and Smith for Luton.

Routledge is often offside when we are in a good attacking position.

A player who really should not be at the club

It is about opinions and thankfully yours count for very little as you have some very strange ideas which are always to be taken with a pinch of salt

Wayne has served our Club very well, it was only at Reading a few months ago that another piece of sublime skill got us into the play offs when we had been written off

Ok he’s reaching the end now but he’s still capable of doing well for our team if used sparingly as he is ..

Thought Manning did alright, I'd rest Smith and most definitely Lowe.
And I would start with Gyökeres

Woodman
Roberts Cabango Bennet Guehi Bidewell
Dhanda Grimes Palmer
Ayew Gyokeres

Woodman's actions for their second goal may just be the most awful piece of goalkeeping I have seen by a Swansea keeper in the past decade.

You can forgive the occasional misplaced pass, dropped shot or even the occasional howler.

I can't excuse seeing our professional goalkeeper back pedal into his own goal when a player is running at him one on one, and then not even attempt to close the player down as he gets ready to shoot. It was cowardly.

I suspect that's his chance of ever playing for Newcastle done and dusted should any of the senior Newcastle coaches see a video of that.

You 're strangeness itelf to me in the way you seek to worship a player so bereft of any use to our club. He ha been a passenger for a good 4 years.

He is being used before a young ,athletic and skilful lad in Garrick and it is appalling to behold so ,with all due respect, you take also take your opinions and mount them on your mantlepiece.

With a decent striker who could have put a number of the chances we have created away we would probably be a few points clear at the top, it is simple really invest in a decent striker and it gives us a chance of going up, do not bring in a decent striker we will not go up.

Can’t dispute or disagree with any of that

Woodman has done well for us but that was an inexplicable shocking moment of madness. Not just an error of judgement, it seemed that he just wanted to make it as easy as possible for their player ( which clearly isn’t the case )

Has he done well for us? I can't recall any matches where at full time I've thought "Woodman earned us a point / 3 points there".

I can recall numerous matches where we've discussed whether he should have gotten down quicker to save goals, or come out for a cross, or whether his distribution was poor etc.

I certainly don't think he was worth allocating a valuable loan spot to when we had a young goalkeeper of our own who excelled during his first season in professional football last year. Especially at the expense of having no senior striker at the club.

We've spent two years advertising Woodman for when he desperately seeks a contract in League 1 next season, whilst we have likely simultaneously disillusioned one of the very few exciting academy players we have left.

He has saved at least 2 penalties to my knowledge which got us a point both games.

He isnt the best we have had obviously but I think you just look on the negative side ALL the time.

Woodman's a decent keeper. Better than some think, not as good as others think.

My problem with him is that his presence is pointless. We've got in Benda a fantastic prospect but he's sitting on the bench because Cooper likes players he's worked with before.

It's a waste of a loan slot which could have gone to another Brewster type.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
