RIP to a legend. One of the best sporting autobiography I've read. His description of trying to sober up Paul McGrath on the bus on the way to playing Italy in the world cup was brilliant.

I really liked big Jack, a proper hard football man, who was honest as the day was long.

RIP big man.

A story I heard, which I hope is true.

When he was Ireland manager, and travelling around the country, he would stop in local pubs saying he didn't have any cash on him and would they cash a cheque?

The publican would always say yes and big jack would write them a cheque for say £50. The landlord would frame the cheque and never cash it. Big jack repeated this ad infinitum across Ireland.

RIP to one of the games greatest characters.

Italia '90 was the tournament that got me into football and the story of the Irish team there was a big part of it, even if the football was basic.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

He made his debut for Leeds aged 17, replacing John Charles at centre half.

He told a story about his debut, asking the manager Raich Carter if he had any instructions. His reply was ...

"See how fast their centre forward can limp". 😂

RIP Jack.
