I'm driving my father-in-law to Bronllys hospital Powys for his vaccination on thursday.

His appointment is for 7:00 pm.

Do you know how he was notified, by phone or letter?

I'm afraid to say on the east side there's very few surgeries open on a Saturday and that includes for the flu vaccination , aim and outcome are not mutually exclusive to each other. We'll see

Cwmfelin were running a Saturday session yesterday

Preparation for our first over 85’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic has begun. We are limited by stock delivery so at the moment we are calling a 100 patients a week, working backwards in age. We welcome our first 10 patients in the next 15 minutes.

I'm genuinely glad that's the case, the sooner we can have some sort of normality back into our lives then that moment can't come soon enough for me.

Sadly I think some are just looking to attack anything happening in Wales because they dont like either the Assembly or Drakeford's politics. It is highly likely all or very nearly all over 80s, care home residents and staff and NHS workers will be vaccinated by the end of the month. Some of the issues raised are nonsensical. There is no way anyone in Wales or elsewhere would be able to have used the pfizer vaccination within days. You simply cannot get loads of staff in to give it then have them doing nothing for a month. Just like elsewhere. it will be worked over a period of time.

Most dont mention how well we are doing compared to England with keeping the virus under control. As of today Wales has an average rate of 322 per 100,000 and this is only that high because of problems in North East Wales. England has 537 over 200 more. Only 1 welsh county is above that figure but that doesnt get mentioned because it doesnt suit the political purpose.

I am delighted that we are vaccinating people AND bringing the rate down as should everyone else be. The lower amount of the virus the less risk we are all at and the sooner everyone is vaccinated the better. It really shouldnt matter who is in charge in Cardiff Bay.
It would be nice if instead of knocking some saw the positives and welcomed the work done here.

My opinion on how effective the Senedd has been for the whole of Wales hasn't altered, which is one of disdain. In regards to Covid -19, they're only doing that which is the least expected from them.

I dont think the last sentence is true. They are doing what they can to control it and given the idiotic responses of people like Trump or Johnson are doing far better. I didnt hear Drakeford stupidly telling everyone that we would be back to normal by Christmas or it would be gone in a couple of weeks. We should be acting in accordance with what the scientists advise as they know better than the politicians.

I dont really know what else anyone could have done and that would be whoever was in power.

Why do we need an extra minister. We already have a Health Minister. England has 18 times the population of Wales. There maybe some justification there but for the number of cases not required here.

The massive cock up. Well as of Thursday Wales had vaccinated 4% of its population Scotland 4.1%. Is that a massive cock up. If you are referring to unused vaccinations everywhere has them. You get a supply once a month and you work through it over a period. Where do you get the staff to do it all in one day. What do they do for the rest of the month. Nothing. It isnt feasible for everything to be done all at once and that applies everywhere not just Wales.

Wouldnt Johnson have been better employed having a specialised minister for reducing infections. Wales up to yesterday had 322 cases per 100,000 residents as against England's 537.9. Just who is cocking things up. Only 1 borough in Wales is above that rate. Swansea's rate yesterday was 222.3 over 300 cases per 100,000 residents less than the English average.

Wales hasnt had to send patients over 200 miles away because there wasn't any spare Intensive Care Beds. Patients have been sent from Kent to Bristol and Plymouth and London to Newcastle. Why werent they sent somewhere more local.

So you and it seems Drakeford deem it more important that staff are drip feeding the vaccine because they must have something to do .My son is not working with no end in sight along the thousands of others with little prospect of providing for their families . Couldn't make this up . "We won't get another delivery of that until the end of January, probably the beginning of February," he said. "We have to use that over that six week stretch. It would be logistically very damaging to try and use all of that in the first week, and then to have all our vaccinators standing around with nothing to do for another month."
To me it seems he's discarding the Pfizer vaccine because its too much like hard work. .Stop comparing Johnson with Drakeford who's making Johnson look like he knows what he's doing

The bottom line is that both Drakeford,Johnson and all the others are flying by the eat of their pants as none of them has faced this like before.Nobody has.

Politicans of all hues have a template and when that breaks ,they seem donald ducked.

There is no template to deal with this virus and we are all learning as we go along. It is smarter and more ruthless than we are,for sure.

Surprising that Cardiff is one of the slowest vaccine rollout areas of Wales. I would have expected high population density areas to be the easiest to administer.

Welsh figures (and Scottish) are not updated over the weekend so it will be interesting to see how the stats look by midweek.

One thing Johnson is much better at than Drakeford is talking himself and his government up. England claiming that group 4 are starting to be vaccinated this week which interests me as it includes me. Drakeford seems to be on the defensive and justifying slower rollout on the radio this morning. Lower case rates in Wales should have seen him far more upbeat for me but he always seems so dour and staid.

I was just reading that, surely nobody but Drakeford and Gething believe this is right? Why does the vaccine have to last until February?

Surely its better to have used it all and protect people than have it sitting around?

I lifted 2 comments off the WOL by "Serenity Painted Death"

He wants the staff administering the vaccinations to look busy — people will die for the sake of public sector presenteeism, and the First Minister hasn’t even the grace to hide it

and then to have all our vaccinators standing around with nothing to do for another month." So Drippy’s excuse for rationing the Pfizer vaccine is that he doesn’t want his vaccinators to be idle on the job? Never mind the fact that vulnerable people will die while they wait for their vaccine; never mind the fact that rationing the vaccine will prolong the lockdown and further entrench the economic damage, leaving quite a lot of people “with nothing to do” for significantly longer than “another month” whilst also being destitute. No, the most important issue is that those on the Welsh Government payroll are made to look busy while clocked on — Drippy is nothing but a petty, bean-counting bureaucrat, and the arrogance of this clown turns my stomach.

Those comments paint the picture, will any Drakeford supporters defend this or claim Drakeford is putting people's lives first?
Kilkenny, does this show Drakeford cares? Maybe it does but not about peoples lives just about appearnaces.
Apart from anything else, the vaccine he's holding back is the most difficult to store, what if there is an issue and the vaccine is ruined?

The man is not fit to be in his position.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Thus far the Westminster govt is aceing it on the vaccination front. About time they got something right.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Astonishing statement today defending Wales very slow roll out of the vaccine. He blames a lack of supply, this despite the fact that Wales has only used 88,000 out 327,000 doses supplied. He also says he does not want the people who are administering the vaccine to be sitting around with nothing to do. I think the extra 239,00 who could be vaccinated would love to have the vaccine so they could sit around without the worry.
About time the 60 senedd members demanded he get the vaccine out now.

Another bizarre statement he made was that Wales was only marginally behind the UK and that is not important. Wales is 50% behind the UK average and 90% behind the NI average. That is disastrous not marginal.

Of course Johnson knows better that is why they are having to send patients from London to Newcastle because there are no intensive care beds. Wonderful. Send our patients in Swansea to Bangor. Absolute rubbish.

You take on staff to do a job. You take on enough staff to do it. If you know you have 100,000 vaccinations for a month you take on enough people to give 25000 a week. As far as the pfizer jab is concerned it is being worked through. The lates vaccination figures for Wales showed over 120000 vaccinations had been given by the middle of last week. We had only has 40,000 AZ vaccines and not all of them would have been given. That meant 80000+ pfizer vaccines would have been given plus any for Friday, Saturday and yesterday. It is not as though pfizer jabs arent being given. They have been given to nthose more able to travel ie health and care workers who are far more able to travel than care home residents or over 80s many of whom are housebound.

Aye, the reality and common sense says i.e. if you've got vaccination staff sitting around with nothing to do, it means they've achieved the objective to vaccinate all with supply they've been given. IMO the Welsh Government did not make the preparation to have it all used up in the first place. Fell asleep on their desks Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

That theory goes to pot when you factor in the second dose. If you are holding Pfizer vaccine back for the second dose, instead of "having staff hanging about" get them to give the second jab and then carry on with the AstraZeneca when stock is replenished.
