The English Football League is to suspend all fixtures until 4 April, Sky News understands.
It comes as Premier League chiefs meet to discuss the top division's response to the coronavirus outbreak, as Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi were diagnosed with COVID-19.
Three Leicester City players are also being tested for COVID-19, while Everton announced on Thursday that the squad was in self-isolation after a player reported symptoms consistent with the virus.
Meanwhile, European football's governing body UEFA has announced that all Champions League and Europa League matches scheduled for next week have been postponed.
Other top-flight leagues in Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal and Ireland suspended matches earlier this week as the outbreak spreads across Europe.
Advertisement English football had been told to carry on as normal by the government which said the risk of catching COVID-19 in a stadium was low.
The COVID-19 pandemic has seen a number of sports tournaments and competitions put on hold around the world, including the NBA basketball season and all of the US PGA's scheduled golf tournaments for the next three weeks.

Very good point.
I suppose it will depend on if they still got their wages paid , if they have been paid then they would have to either play or pay back wages I would imagine ?

Call it a day till the end of April. Start of May get all the prem teams together. Stick Norwich and Villa on the pitch. Norwich are four points behind so they get four minutes to score a goal, otherwise down they go. On come Bournemouth to play Villa. Two minutes for Villa to score and on we go. Flog tickets for £500 a pop to the rich bastards who'd pay for that and use that money to fund missed wage payments for the lower leagues.
I'm not suggesting that we try this in the Championship otherwise we'd find a way to QPR it up
