Just seen this article in the Express, the Centre for Social Trusted fronted by Ian Duncan Smith former Tory Party leader are advocating that the retirement age is increased to 75. That would give the average bloke 4.2 years before he died. Can’t think of many people I know who want to work until they are 75, it’s mental.
Is it me or are this 'think tank' deliberately omitting the fact that people are not forced to retire, and they can carry on working if they wish to do so. This completely invalidates the points they are making?

Unlike IDS to completely misrepresent the facts.
For someone who has failed so dismally for so long at pretty much every political position he has ever held,,he does get an awful lot of air time.

The point isn't about when individuals retire though - that's indeed an individual's choice. It's surely the fact that the government don't want to give any state pension out, period, and would far rather people die before they have to cough up. Said state pension will factor into most people's retirement plans. Take that away and the variables change - just like the 'WASPI' ladies found out.

They take all our money and point out that it’s all the poor ,disabled and immigrants fault.
But fair play to them millions of morons fall for it.
They are far worse than c@nts. Rich get richer. Always has been whilst those c@nts are in government.
Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

No, it's the point that because people are living longer the state pension contributions haven't been enough to sustain what is needed...

Life expectancy in the UK has stopped improving for the first time since 1982, when figures began.
Women's life expectancy from birth remains 82.9 years and for men it is 79.2, the figures from the Office for National Statistics, for 2015-17, show.
In some parts of the UK, life expectancy has even decreased.
For men and women in Scotland and Wales, it declined by more than a month. Men in Northern Ireland have seen a similar fall.
That's irrelevant.
Everyone paying in since 1982 has paid at certain limits. As life expectancy increases, that means what has collectively paid in isn't enough. One year of it falling won't help much.

Its an absolutely ridiculous proposition and if it were to come in would only negatively affect the lower end of society. How many employers want anyone of 60 worker there anyway, and how many would be likely to hire someone over that age? How would manual labour jobs work, surely cant expect a 74 year old to climb up a ladder and start doing your roof. Will just force those that wouldve claimed their pension into benefits.

Really? I understood that the calculations were based on life expectancy continuing to increase at an almost linear rate, hence the staggered calculations on retirement age.
Anyway, what irks me is that pensions are pretty much insurance policies to provide an income should you live beyond your working years, to have the terms and conditions changed 'half way through' just seems wrong.
And, some research is suggesting that the more austerity measures are implemented the more likely that life expectancy will continue to decrease, particularly in less affluent areas.

According to some brexit enthusiasts and “further right” Tories it’s all the immigrants fault.
Except that the majority of immigrants arrive here at working age, pay taxes, and then “retire” back to their counties of birth. Meaning they contribute to the pension and benefit pot, without withdrawing from it in young or old age.
Won’t be true in every case of course, but if you are arguing that there are too many older people out of work due to an ageing population, then surely we need increased immigration to mitigate the imbalance.

Whoah... you’re a smart cookie and thankfully those in government have just realised this to.
Mate. Open your eyes whilst what you say is true the answer they propose is just plain wrong on every level. The way we treat our old in the country is shocking for the 5th largest economy. Absolutely shocking.
But you crack on buying into and believing the likes of IDS etc. Eventually it will catch up with you too.
A few years ago thy were talking about a Norway model... you now how the old are treated in Norway BTB?
Even after 9 yea s of austerity, the Brexit lies you still believe they now have to raise the retirement age, as that’s the only answer? My dad was a builder, a bricklayer by trade. He’s in his early 70s. Luckily he did ok for himself (business owner) so he could retire early 60s. But I have to say he there’s no way he could now work on a building site, it would kill him. My mother late 60s. She enjoyed her work and had a fashion outlet. On her feet all day everyday. Again, there’s no way she should have to work until seventy bloody five. I know they didn’t and wouldn’t have been forced to but they paid into a system which should then pay them back when their alive! If it cannot, why pay it...which is of course where this will end up.
Politicians should be held to account. IDS is a liar, a failure and brings absolutely nothing to the table but takes plenty off it.
