External memory for laptop on 19:10 - Jun 18 with 1802 views | jack2jack | Got a Toshiba 1tb plug and play one, from Amazon, cheep as chips does the job, bought it simply cos we be got a Toshiba laptop. Was going for a Western Digital one, supposed to be alright too. Go for the SSD type, more stable apparently and faster. Hope that helps.👠

Got one of those as a media drive for the telly. Can't argue for the price.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Techie point of order; you mean "data transmission" rather than "downloading". Downloading will be restricted to internet speed, USB 3 just means the data is moved to and from the hard drive quicker.

Techie point of order bluey: If he didn't know what 1 TB was, then I'm sure that 'downloading' was a 'good enough' representation of data transmission speed. BTW, if he hasn't got an USB 3 port on his laptop, it's a vacuous point anyway.

I think you will find thats 1,024 GB. *pushes up nerd glasses. For hard drive, for my two pence if your looking for value over speed a HDD (IE normal hard drive) will give you more space for the pound. The stability of either drive by the way are about the same. HDDs have moving parts and SDD's NAND flash can suffer malfunctions due to shock damage and electrical issues. TL;DR if you just need something to store loads of stuff I'd go a large HDD. if you are looking for something to process data quick, games, rendering video, etc I'd suggest investing in a SSD.
