Aye St Clears born and bred. Both the Railway and the Highwayman are long gone, as are the Penrheol, Hollybush, Masons, Blue Boar, The Swan and another I can't quite recall the name of which (Coopers?)is a shame as it's where I had my first half! Only 4 pubs left now

Played rugby with Santa whose name needs no explaining to those from Lower St.Clears. The Butchers is a Chinese I've heard? [Post edited 21 Apr 2019 10:16]

You're right it was indeed the Butchers. I don't think it's a Chinese tho. If it is I'll try it cos the one on the square is truly shite. Had loads of kickabout football matches / 7 a side rugby games with Santa. This was long before St C had an egg team. You from this neck of the woods Dicky?

It's small, I don't think the smallest but it's full of characters. Any local in there if over 40 will name you 15 blokes from the town that would have beaten the All Blacks!!! They'll tell you singers that would have sold more records than Elvis and the Beatles combined. The graffiti in the bogs which are downstairs is hilarious. Just jokes and limericks. Plenty of sporting memorabilia on the walls. They had a 7 a side rugby team that won the Amsterdam 7's in 1989 or 1990. The trips over there are legendary and take some getting your head round!!!!

I've been in there a few times over the years, absolutely magical pub, it's like drinking in someone's parlour, if your a stranger you wont be for long, you have no choice but to join in with the banter 👠
