It's that time of year again

IN BEFORE - posh people taking over pubs and not drinking. It's been done lads

Intriguing year this year pre World Cup. Some talk teams should blood players, but imo that should have been done already. This is about making sure your team is battle hardened and firing.

England have absolutely lost the plot imo. Trying to play mind games with the second most professional set of players in the world and posting videos of them trying to copy Ireland's tactics waving pool noodles at people. Gonna be quite embarrassing when Ireland grind them into dust.

Ireland - last year I felt like we should be winning by default with everyone else's injuries, but in that process they seemed to find the confidence to drive on to ever new heights. Leinster are dominating the European game. We'll have a target on us and we'll relish it - but this is a test of how good we actually are and how we've manged to negate our bottle job heritage.

Wales are the quiet ones to watch. They've steadily been racking up wins, look refreshed with some new personnel, and got that Australia win monkey off their backs. I'm going to Wales Ireland final game and I'm expecting it to be the decider.

Scotland - won't win but are bloody good fun to watch. France and Italy remain rubbish.

Some of you may remember that I tried to start a rugby podcast last year - and I've put a bit of effort in to get it off the ground again this year. If Clive's ok with self promotion, you can listen to it here, or search for Numbers! in the itunes store!

Eddie Jones is just an abusive pr1ck isn't he. Think there will be violence in the first 20 minutes.

Agree about Wales and Scotland very capable of the odd banana skin too.

Henshaw to full back is interesting if true for Ireland.

Ringrose my tip for player of the tournament

Hard to see anything other than Ireland walking it. Should be some entertaining games though.

Writing off England is a bit silly IMO But for a very borderline call they too would have beaten the All Black's in the autumn. They will be smarting after last year and do will be very dangerous underdogs going to Dublin.

Ireland should win it but England at 3/1 o Saturday is tempting.

Now I have said that everyone else lump on Ireland by 25 points!

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

But for a very borderline (and wrong) call they would have lost to South Africa

Well yes, I imagine his point is that things are so close that a few individual decisions can make a recent win/lose record look one way or another, whereas in reality things might be different. I fully expect to lose in Dublin this weekend. If we win, I'll be well pleased but I won't be absolutely astounded. It would only take Ireland having an off day and England having a good one to throw the form book away.

Wales all the way.

A magnificent football club, the love of our lives, finding a way to finally have its day in the sun.
Poll: When will the next election date be announced?

Wales do have the nudge in that they have Ireland at home. Can't help feeling Wales might have trouble with France this Friday though. France are just so unpredictable but still have a couple of match winners. If Wales beat France it could well go to a decider at the end v Ireland.

Exciting.

Easy to see isn't it? Ireland getting all the hype all the way and Wales quietly doing their business knowing they've got the decider at home

I can't see beyond Ireland winning it, but they might fail to take the Grand Slam in Cardiff. They certainly shouldn't be tinkering with what is probably the best team in the World at the moment... just keep becoming a more cohesive unit.

England are once again in the run up to a WC with no settled centre partnership, so I think they'll have to stick with Ford at 10 and Farrell at 12. I hope JJ can be match fit in time for the WC, but I doubt it - and I wouldn't bet anything on Tuilagi staying uninjured nor getting fit enough.
I'm absolutely baffled as to why Eddie still refuses to try Alex Goode at fullback, particularly when Farrell is at fly half.
Having said that, I think England will win all three of their home games and be guaranteed at least 3rd (unless Scotland pick up more bonus points).

On paper I'd expect Wales to finish second, but I suspect they will lose away in Scotland and possibly also in France on Friday. So I can see them needing to beat Ireland at home to finish above England.

Fourth and fifth will probably be decided by the result of Scotland away in France. But if Scotland did manage to squeak out a narrow victory against Ireland at home then they could end up in the top two.

I think Italy will struggle to pick up any points.

Spoken as much in hope as expectation but they might just do it. Ireland are still crazy strong and the others except Italy are no slouches.

I hope Italy make progress too, can't see where they'll get their win though with Ireland and Wales going to Rome.

The French have wheeled out the heavy roller against Wales - 154 stone of pack split between the 8 men! Seemingly this is the heaviest international pack ever. But they've gone for relative lightweights behind. I find the French side fascinating - they've never failed to make the knockout stage of a World Cup so to keep that record they'll need to make their mark in this tournament. I'm not sure that they've improved since last year but they did show up for their New Zealand tests last summer - were a bit unlucky with cards. They could well be the surprise package this time, if there's going to be one.

Cymru Au Byth although I think Ireland are too strong and could be on for a famous double.

I think the only thing that could stop them is the unfamiliarity of being firm favourites. If they can manage the expectation then I can't see past them.

Final game could be interesting but have got a bad feeling about Friday night.

Scotland are missibg Vern Cotter. Think him leaving has stunted their development.

England think they are the best, Eddie Jones thinks he is the best, RFU think is it's the best, Twickenham thinks it's the best. They aren't

Can see Ireland going all the way. Borderline call or not he was offside, had the All Blacks held on to their chances they would've been out of sight. Difference between that game and the one where they lost in Dublin, was Ireland never took their foot off the gas. If England are to come close this year, they need to compete for the full 80. Will come down to whether Jones can motivate the pack and how fit they are.

Not a bad team on paper.

Its all about the packs. My old mans Irish so will be shouting for the boys in green. I'm 50/50 so cant lose on the day! But a 3/1 England are attractive!

England team to face Ireland:

Daly; May, Slade, Tuilagi, Nowell; Farrell, Youngs; M Vunipola, George, Sinckler, Itoje, Kruis, Wilson, Curry, B Vunipola.

Replacements: Cowan-Dickie, Genge, Williams, Lawes, Hughes, Robson, Ford, Ashton

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

I don't think there's any complacency or doubt at RFU HQ as to who is the team to beat... but just like the Welsh to try play down their own massive arrogance and self importance with a pre-emptive clichéd strike against the English.

Let's have an 'Arrogance Off' because England would lose a sing off with the Welsh but might win an 'Arrogance Off' what what what what what

Might head to Crate Brewery in Hackney (rugby heartland) to watch Friday. Looks like fun.

Good luck 👍🏼 can't wait! Love the Six Nations but not as much as the Lions!!

I know sweet FA about Rugby but always thoroughly enjoy the 6 Nations. Such a contrasting vibe to the 24/7 nature of the football.

I'm going for an England win tomorrow, sing them home and err etc.

They had a stinker last year but not long before that they were going to smash the All Black's record wining streak.

The Welsh have always been arrogant about rugby but they're not as bad as they used to be, probably because they're not as good as they used to be. England are in no way a likeable outfit, but if you're English then they're your side and you want them to win. Ireland are a bit annoying at the moment and in this World Cup year they're either going to have to get bigger boots or smaller feet.

Jonathan Davies is an utterly smug faced partisan thunderknut who should be banned from commentating on Welsh games.

I really didn’t think Wales would get back into that after a shambles of a first half. Don’t know what Gatland said to them but jeez. France could cause others issues but did fold easier than a poker player dealt 7/2 off suit.

That read, pick and try from North was superb. If that was an All Black......

Am buzzing for Ire v Eng and indeed the rest of the Championship.

I don’t think Gatland said much other than try and put a few phases together. Then they were handed a couple of tries on a plate. If I was a french fan I would want my whole team tested for horse tranquillisers they were that stupid in the second half.
