Ipswich has a population of 133,381 but is the County town of Suffolk which has a population of 730,000. The City and County of Swansea has a population of 241,300 if you exclude the old areas of Gower and the Lliw Valley then Swansea's Population was around 170,000. Most of the Population growth has occurred just outside the boundaries of Ipswich, as Ipswich's has little free land and it's boundaries have not increased for the last 100 years. If you included the New housing estates with 3 miles of Ipswich it's population would be similar to Swansea. They were last in the play offs 2015 and most of their debt is currently held my their owner Marcus Evans. Ipswich have also benefited from being in a football only county no competition from Rugby. |
So you compare the entire county of Suffolk to Swansea minus Gower and the Lliw Valley? You should get a job with the Welsh Assembly who would love your approach to statistics.

Yep. Also worth pointing out that the debt isn’t as a result of trying to buy their way out of the league, quite the opposite. They try to break even (as the yanks want to do), and this is just the shortfall covered by the owner. Spending has been minimal, and they’ve sold anyone of note. Fees are rarely paid (they did this season) and wages amongst the lowest in the division. Their fans were frothing at the mouth when we bought Celina for £4m - they could only dream of that and being competitive enough in wages to attract good players. It’s simply that you can’t run a club at a profit in this league if you don’t have players to sell and/or you make bad decisions with managers and player recruitment. A lesson here for the yanks I think, as this is the model they seem to want to follow.

Precisely why relegation would mean for them what it meant to us. This “we’ll be stronger” is a load of b0llocks.

Weren't they at about £170m before he wrote a big chunk off? Football is a play thing for mad fools with more money than sense.

Swiss Ramble has released some figures today that puts some meat on these bones. Our owners want to run the club without extra owner investment? Good luck with that if we don't get promoted before the parachute payments run out.
To summarise: "Nevertheless, the main conclusion is clear, namely the Championship is a division where most clubs require significant financing from their owners, largely to cover operating losses and fund player purchases, as they strive to reach the (wealthier) heights of the Premier League."
