Chiropractors on 13:36 - Sep 28 by Nogginthenog | I have been to walk in clinic and I followed the exercise regime religiously but my symptoms have worsened to the extent that I have to lie in bed. Walking and standing is agony. |
I had the exact same problem, doing the exercises made me much worse. I tried them for 2 weeks to see if I could work through it but in the end I couldn't walk or stand up straight and needed crutches. I'm waiting for a new hip and both my knees are bad too, I think doing the exercises caused a trapped nerve which comes and goes. Different things work for different people.

Chiropractors on 18:21 - Sep 28 with 1580 views | GreatBritton | I've suffered from sciatica and lower back problems and the chiropractor I tried definitely did no good at all, and probably some harm. I tried an osteopath and it helped short term but eventually he stopped taking my money because we both recognised there was no long term solution. I exercise and eat carefully but my evolutionary proclivity to walk upright rather than on all fours seems to have done for me. Still, happy days!

Natalie Hawkins in Ystayfera is top class, sorted my wife's sciatica in a couple of sessions. If you're interested I'll get her number for you.

Chiropractors on 12:03 - Sep 28 by Catullus | I tried acupuncture once, it did relieve the problem but yes, the problem came back. It depends on the problem I guess but if wear and tear through work is causing an issue you might end up putting up or shutting up. If you resort to medication though be very careful, I was prescribed Tramadol for my severe pain and whilst it worked short term the extra problems it caused are really not worth it. Insomnia, mood swings, stomach problems and worse still, addiction. The specialist even suspects it may have contributed to my Liver problems because I wasn't much overweight and hardly touch alcohol. |
You have to take the anti-inflammatories to aid the recovery - once the inflammation recedes you will become more mobile and begin to recover and build strength. It's not a case of "resorting" to medication.

Chiropractors on 14:51 - Sep 28 by controversial_jack | What a load of nonsense. What if you have scar tissue, exercise won't help that. Exercise does help in strengthening the other muscles, but some muscles need stimulation, and that's where physios come in |
Like I said, “almost all”. There are always exceptions so not such a load of nonsense. I’m only offering an opinion based on my professional and personal experience - this doesn’t necessarily make it right for all Nog, I’m sorry to hear your experience wasn’t so positive. The exercises do sometimes initially cause increased pain as they aim to cause controlled inflammation to stimulate healing however, it certainly shouldn’t be as bad as you’ve said. It sounds like you’re in a pretty bad way and I’m sorry to hear that too. If your pain is that bad then you may need more than a chiropractor/osteopath/physio and may benefit from a discussion with your GP. I appreciate your GP may not be able to do much directly, but if there are other signs/symptoms then you may need further investigation and/or specialist opinion. I think you’ve made the right decision seeing the physio 1st as their often able to solve such issues, unfortunately if things are deteriorating then maybe more help is needed [Post edited 28 Sep 2018 21:18]

Chiropractors on 12:02 - Sep 29 with 1443 views | dameedna | Our football manager and his wife are Chiros. Two of my long term mates are his regular patients. I do not go to a Chiro. Try Osteo or even spiritualism. The process of laying hands by a spiritualist or healer can work for sciatica. Very popular with coal miners with bad backs. Try alternative methods though do your research with Chiros as it can be intrusive, marginal and short term improvement.

“Very popular with coal miners” brought a wry smile to my face. No offence, like, but given their propensity to suffer and die from conditions such as pneumoconiosis, silicosis and god knows what else it seems sadly ironic that a treatment such as this proved popular among them.
