Speaking of Russia, you could try "The Unwomanly Face of War" by Svetlana Alexievich, a selection of interviews with WW2 female Soviet veterans, which I'm half way through at the moment.
Particularly recommend the harrowing section entitled "Of Death and Astonishment in the Face of Death".
Seems incredible that many of these girls were 16 - 20 year olds.

It is excellent-originally produced by "When Saturday Comes'
If still available 'Morbo' and "Tor' their histories of Spanish and German football are fascinating.
I enjoy the Danny Baker books-funny and sad and find Stuart Maconie's books about music (Cider with Roadies) and the UK a good read. Also David Hepworth's 'Uncommon People' if you are into music.
Finally, and more obscure is Robert Forster's 'Grant and I" which traces the history of the Australian Indie band 'The Go Betweens'. A brilliant book but helps if you know a little about this great band | | | |

Tony Adams and Paul Lake are the best autobiographies I’ve read. Mainly because they aren’t solely about football.
Up Pomphei is a nice, feel good factor kind of a book. It won’t have you riveted, but it’s very light poolside reading. | | | |

If you're going on a particularly long holiday then Steven Erikson's series "Malazan book of the fallen" will keep you occupied for a while starting with "Gardens of the Moon"
