Extended McClaren Interview w BBC on 13:52 - May 21 with 4365 views | Northernr | Must have plenty of regrets about his career. It was so long ago I'd forgotten but in researching him last week you forget just how much man Utd won when he was assistant there, it was the pinnacle of Ferguson's reign, and just how good that Derby team was before that and how long they stayed in the Prem - six seasons. He was massively sought after, had offers from several Premier League clubs and basically had his pick and chose Boro - Southampton, West Ham and others all wanted him. Since then he's been a nearly man. Lost a UEFA Cup final at Boro, didn't qualify with England and was poor but actually, as said elsewhere, only needed one result to go differently and he'd have taken us to a tournament. Could easily have got Derby promoted at Wembley. Now he's out of work for a year and scraping around for a job at QPR with little money to spend. Could work out in our favour - point to prove - or might not - maybe he's been ground down by it all, maybe he's actually just a bit sht.

I'm hoping it's the first one of course. When it comes to Rangers I'm generally pessimistic but hopeful.

Maybe, just maybe, he is the perfect fit. Got to respect the fact he's taken a job with no budget, and he did such an excellent job before with us. He seems like a genuine manager to me. Not the huge ego of some of them (big Sam springs to mind). Although i don't subscribe to the idea that somebody can just 'coach' grown men and suddenly turn them into better players overnight, maybe over time he can do just that with so many youngsters. Certainly, the squad we have now needs careful nurturing. There is a lot of potential, there's also the potential of coming stone last having completely imploded. If i was to pick a job that might suit Schteve at present, we might be it. At least he's taken the job for the right reasons, unlike those sh!ts Hughes and Redknapp. Fingers crossed. Amazing, after all these years there is still a spark of optimism left...
