Haven't seen anybody hitchhiking for years, used to be the norm a few years back, only did it once and the first car that went passed me stopped, got me all the way from Oldwalls to Llangennith 👍 two fit looking birds in a white Volkswagen Beetle camper van

Too dangerous these days...too many nutters about,both ways. A lot of people are reluctant to pick up Hitchikers. ..you only have a split second to decide if they are sane or not.

The only people I see hitchiking these days are the guys with number plates who have just dropped off a vehicle.

If it's just me in the car then I probably would.

I'll never forget the only time I picked up a hitchhiker at Sarn services, he wanted to go to Carmarthen. Massive rucksack he had. Anyway I started driving West and struck up a conversation. He was from Pembrokeshire but wanted to call in on a friend in Carmarthen.
" What's in the bag?" I asked

"none of your fûcking business!"he snapped.
I went went cold. I looked in my rear view mirror at the bag which he'd slung on the back seats and I swear there was faint movements.

I felt really awkward and anxious now. We got to Cross Hands roundabout and I said " do you want to get out here?"
The reply " keep driving mate!" really got my adrenaline going, my feet could hardly work the pedals.
" Look , I'm only asking what is in the bag as its moving" I nervously said.

"none of your fûcking business" was the serious reply.

Within 15 minutes I was dropping him off at Blue street bus station.
I was sweating and nervous and when I reversed into my driveway at home I felt upset and shaky.

I undid my seatbelt and could see this bag still on my back seat.

It is never a good idea to hitchhike or to pick up anyone around my town. It's a risk no matter where you live. You're pretty much risking your life every time you do it.
