Here is a rather nice amateur film of LR from March 1980. Love the shots of the empty stadium, especially the Loft and School end terrace. That close season, the school end stand was built, and became the home end for the next season. However, the year afterwards, the Loftus Road stand was built, and we move back there.

I was at that game, we were still outsiders for promotion & Birmingham were above us (they went up). Steve Burke equalised in injury time. The game was on the Big Match the next day :-)

Proper pitch none of this billiard table of today stuff.
Hard as rock one week mud heap the next, sliding tackles, players today would cry their eyes out, hardly any ACL'S back then
Thanks for that.

What a brilliant film!

Loft seems so much smaller than I remember it.

I used to stand in that strange angled area to the right (from the pitch) of the loft.

The badge looks good, the pitch doesn't!

I remember thinking the scoreboard was the height of cutting edge technology when I first saw it.

EVERYONE's boots are black, no advertising on shirts.

The pre match warm up was a bit more laid back in those days!

Finally, love the way there is a policeman on stand by as the players leave the field at half time???? and why does the ref give the ball to a steward as he leaves at h/t.

Wonderful memories - thanks again for posting

Me too. First ever game.
Grandad took me, drove up from south coast, long old poke in them days.
Brilliant day, never forget it. Burke scored a cracker (well I thought so) deep into injury time

I remember a game that year, against Oldham I think, when the game started in bright sunny weather, with the pitch in not too bad condition (at least for that season!) and we were 4-0 up at half time, playing brilliant passing football. At half time, there was a real downpour, and the pitch turned into a paddy field. Oldham got 3 goals back and we held on to win 4-3.

A great nostalgic film that brings back the memories.

As mentioned above, the Loft seems much smaller and rather "pokey". It is amazing how the memory may deceive.

Thanks for posting. :)

I always used to stand by the tea bar in the corner. At least until I managed to move behind the goal in about 78.

It was indeed on the Big Match. I remember being rather excited to spot myself on TV sitting next to the tunnel as the players went off at half time. Can't believe it's 37 years ago.

It was at the back if I remember correctly.

Don't think I was there long, we then moved to School End terracing and then when we got promoted in 72/73 got a S/T in ER which, apart from a break to get married, have kids etc, is where I've been ever since.
