Relegation candidates squad strengths 22:02 - Aug 31 with 5934 viewsclloy2

I havent followed all the deadline day dealings, but would someone with more knowledge than me, care to give me a lift before bedtime and tell me that on paper, our squad still looks stronger than three potential relegation candidates.

What part of 'if the club thought we were strong enough we wouldn't have tried to sign players in two positions over the past 48 hours but failed' are people struggling with?

We haven't chosen to make no signings - we have, so far, tried on several occasions, and failed.

It's not rocket science.

Exactly!

Benteke, seriously? I just don't rate the bloke at all, neither do any of his previous managers by the look of it

Any of his previous managers?

He had a great record at Genk and Villa. He'll do well at Palace. He'll get 10-15 goals more than Llorente this season

We have to try and keep our head above the water until January, we will be in and around the bottom three for sure.

Injuries and suspensions will play a big part so we have to keep our fingers crossed that our squad stays free from them.

SwansNZ,

I always enjoy your musings on this forum, but Burnley was a fortunate result & even if you accept that they are worse than us (which I do not by the way) then I am still waiting to be convinced of the 'other' 2 at least who are.

Of course, this is an unanswerable question at the moment & hopefully you will be proven right & I will need to eat humble pie.

Burnley was a deserved away win. No shmash and grab there. We had the better chances. Hull was a mugging. Despite them sitting behind the ball we still had plenty of chances to win but could not hit the onion bag. Should have shut up shop at the end for a draw but got mugged whilst chasing the game after a spawny goal. Leicester disappointing but we still ended up having our best result so far in recent years and reports say we finished the stronger.
This has been a sh!tty window with an abjectly poor performance from Huw but let's not be over critical of the team yet. We have lost key players. Have a few off form plus new players who have to settle after being signed far too late.
It's not looking great but lets not abandon hope.

Burnley..

......................Heaton.................
Flanagan...Keane...Mee...Ward

Arfield..Defour..Hendricks..Boyd

...............Vokes...Gray................

If we can't finish above them.. We deserve to go down

Bournemouth..

.....................Boruc....................
Daniels..Wilson..Francis..Smith
Ibe...Wilshere..Surman..Gradel
...........King....Wilson................

They can cause all sorts on the break.. Their back four are dodgy.

.................Mandanda................
Ward..Tomkins..Dann..Souare
Zaha..Cabaye..McArthur..Townsend
.............Benteke...Remy............

defensively weak again..

Hull..

...............................Marshall............................
Elmohamady..Davies..Livermore..Robertson
Snodgrass..Huddlestone..Meyler..Mason..Maloney
................................Hernandez........................

packing the team with no width and relying on 0-0s.. We should be above these.

....................Foster...................
Dawson..Nyom..Evans..Galloway
Phillips..Fletcher..Gardner..Yacob..Chadli
.........................Rondon................

f*ck that's a pragmatic 0-0 default team.. Pulis knows how to destroy football.

Sunderland..

.......................Pickford................
Manquillo..Djilobodji..Kone..PVA
Pienaar..Rodwell..Kirchhoff..N'Dong..Januzaj
.........................Defoe....................

goalkeeper bit of an issue.. but a fairly strong team.

Watford..

.............................Gomes.............................
Janmaat..Kaboul..Prodl..Kabasele..Zuniga
...................Behrami...Capoue.....................
.............................Pereyra............................
..................Deeney.......Ighalo......................

but he changes his side like confetti..

The awkward moment when a Welsh Club become the Champions of England.. shh The Swansea Way.. To upset the odds.

We'll always be a team that prays for 40 points at the beginning of every season. Problem is, each year the Prem gets stronger.

We haven't gotten stronger.

This year it's even more noticeable because the rich got richer – with managers and with signings. The top clubs are looking to pummel the bottom half like never before. The bottom half is spending like never before to stay in the richest league in the world.

That's where we come in, and yet we're not spending. We've actually had a profit this window, not including the nine players we've sent out on loan.

It's a recipe for more butt-clenching than ever before.

I'm afraid that if we don't improve on the pitch, we'll end up being like Aston Villa and throwing in the towel by November.

Gut says so will Sunderland and Bournemouth. Our defence looks as weak as others and still crap at basics at corners. We're look heavily dependent on Siggy and Baston and a few of the younger lads like Kingsley and Fulton stepping up.

I'd rather we were always in the relegation mix than have a billionaire take control.

We're better than being a billionaire's toy.

I'd love to swap a benevolent billionaire with a hobby for American 'investors' on the make.
