My son has had his GCSE disqualified because a teacher forwarded the wrong piece of work by email to the examination board. How the f... is this fair. This was supposed to be a controlled assessment where the teacher checks all the work of the 11 pupils but he did not.
We can not appeal - only the school can and the head teacher does not feel there are any grounds to.
My son is devastated as this particular subject was his first choice for A level study and he worked his arse off for,

I think part of the issue with teachers is that too many of them have never left the educational system.
They attend School,University,Teacher training then go back to school!
Maybe it should be compulsory for teachers to spend a few years in the real world to get a better idea of what normal working life is all about.... |

This type of ignorant teacher bashing by someone who either doesn't have the intelligence of is so blinkered that they are not prepared to see the extreme stress and dedication of most of the teaching profession, makes me sick. My and I have taught for forty years and I as an examinations officer for 10. I totally understand the stresses that many teachers feel and I also know how difficult it is to deal with uncooperative students who don't follow the advice of teachers and then complain when things have not gone their way (not saying that this is what happened at Maesydderwen). Shadow a dedicated teacher for a week and you will soon eat your words. | | | |

Many years ago I did GCSE Art which I hoped to do at A level - one of my reachers on the QT told me my folder had been graded and that I had nothing to worry about. When my results came in I had a D grade. I was shocked and when I asked what had happened I was told that my work was randomly selected by a moderator and that's what I got. I picked up my folder half way through my first term in first year sixth only to find that half my work was missing and that it never got sent to the moderator. Never went back to school after that. |

As an ex exam officer I can tell you that the school can apply for 'Special Consideration' and as long as the completed assessment work e.g written examination or performance, depending on the subject, not counting the missing piece, is more that 50% of the full assessment, most boards that I dealt with would give the candidate a grade. | | | |
