apparently.
My local park is sodden. Having trouble walking on it.
Terrible for Mackems if game called off just as they're arriving in town.

Don't they have them anyway? Could be wrong but I thought it would be standard procedure

How long has it been since a prem game has been called off due to rain?? Just out of curiosity..

Doubt it. We've had much worse weather and the pitch is always impeccable.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

It is . The referee and his assistants will already be there and monitoring the conditions. They will have checked the pitch markings, flags, goals etc and will assess the nets for security, holes etc.

The pitch is a gravel sand construction with Desso reinforcement and two way airflow so that the rootgrowth can be aerated or water sucked down to the drainage. The constructions bears no relationship to any natural soil conditions in the area at the moment. If you're bothered about realtime rainfall check here where it's updated every 15 minutes. You'll need a coat :)

Ironically Sunderland v Reading, 1st match of the 2012-13 season from memory. The Stadium of Light pumps failed after pre season groundworks damaged them I think so the pitch just filled up like a swimming pool. Everyone was very embarrassed.

Been dryish most of day, few showers, hail. We have one of the best pitches in the league with really good drainage, so not much chance of a 'call off'

Agreed. Modern top flight pitches are something else. I was at Headingley on 27th Dec for the Carnegie v Rotherham union match. We had to virtually wade to the ground through the floods but once in it was a different world. The pitch played beautifully and only a little light divotting was needed. Even the cheerleaders had no problem in daps.

Which probably explains why Fat Sam has been quoted every couple of hours for the last day pumping some bit of spin or another. Too much time by the coffee machine in the hotel lobby.
