shelvey..........what a fukking player on 01:12 - May 3 by Dull1Thomas | Shelvey my man of the match That's two good games in a row. Long may it last ... but it has taken all season to achieve. And both games were in a deeper role where he made it plain he didn't like playing so well done Monk for sorting out a potentially good player. But the sort of hyperbole surrounding the guy is off the scale. |
Two good games in a row? That's not what you said him against Newcastle. If you remember you described his double tackle that set up one of the goals as him being too slow in the first place. You are less consistent than JJS. Sorry Dav but I have to say that your stance on JJS is totally mystifying.

shelvey..........what a fukking player on 02:50 - May 3 by Davillin | You truly and truly need help with your fixation on me! I asked you more than once before to stop bringing me up on every Shelvey thread. I don't intend to waste my time repeating myself to closed minds, so you try to pull me into it. Find another itch to pick at. In addition to not wanting to waste my time, I also do not wish to rain on anyone's parade. |
Dav, I think people are trying to tell you to give credit where it is due. Why not give it a try even for JJS, it does not mean that your stance is wrong (but i suspect that it is not such a solid argument anymore) but we are supposed to SUPPORT the club and players.

I haven't said anything substantive about him recently but have asked certain posters to stop bringing my name up out of the blue. [Talk about setting up a straw man so they can look wise for rebutting me -- but rebutting nothing.] I can understand that you "suspect that it is not such a solid argument anymore" because you haven't heard anything from me for a long time -- only posts about me. i give you credit for your objectivity here, and respect you for it, which is why I have replied. Thanks. My opinion about him hasn't been changed by what I have seen on the pitch -- if anything, only strengthened, in point of fact. But then, I take into consideration everything he does in a game -- not just the occasional spectacular anomaly -- and in direct and sole relationship to how it affects team performance. p.s., other posters have done the same, but are not lightening rods for the contentious among us. Clueless, totally clueless. Sorry Dav, but it's true. Trying to paint yourself as some kind of sage, seeing things we normal people aren't seeing, isn't making you any less wrong. Still, if denial makes you feel better...

So you are not allowed to make a mistake on the field and be man of the match. It is the law to bestow godlike status on players you like. Got it.

So Monk was wrong to say “The yellow card came from laziness, and he has to be better than that. I have spoken to him a number of times about this and there is only so many times you can say it. He has to learn very quickly and make sure he does the work instead of being lazy with it and he won’t pick up those yellow cards and risk a red or coming off the pitch. “It is about doing your job properly, understanding the role that you are playing, not just for yourself but for the team. Jonjo has to learn very quickly from it, otherwise he won’t play games, it is as simple as that. I don’t want to be in that position where he gets a yellow and I’m thinking the rest of the game that there could be a sending off here. I shouldn’t be put in that position, I shouldn’t have to worry about that, so it isn’t my problem, it is Jonjo’s.” Or Leighton James, 'JONJO Shelvey is rapidly reaching the point of no return at Swansea City. The former Liverpool midfielder has been under the spotlight over the festive period as Garry Monk publicly criticised him before he was suspended for flinging a forearm at Emre Can. Regular readers of this column know my feelings on Shelvey – I find him hugely frustrating. I just don't think he's disciplined enough, both in a behavioural or football sense. When you look at other players Swansea can call upon to operate at the base of midfield, they are far more reliable. The likes of Ki Sung-Yueng and Leon Britton stick to their job rigidly and never let the side down. But Shelvey cannot be trusted to hold his position and all too often doesn't track back.' Those are just a couple of quotes about Shelvey that echo what a couple of posters write on here. He is not perfect and your constant attempts to belittle anyone who disagrees with you are both disrespectful and a quite needy.

He is a lot more disciplined now and warrants his place in the team as he is a match winner. He has cut out those silly things that he was doing earlier in the season, yes not everything he tries comes off, but he is now trying them in the correct area on the pitch. Monk deserves a lot of credit for the improvement, but so does JJS himself. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Absolutely and that is has been said but slated by some. If Shelvey regularly puts in the performances he did against Newcastle and Stoke he is nothing but an asset. But his manager, other fans, pundits and ex-players have seen and commented on his downside and been attacked for their comments on this site. As for Monk, I don't like him & I'm tiring of his 'win ugly' approach especially as we have seen of late - we can win fairly pretty . But he has done a good job this season record points in the Premier League & probably out highest finish. However, if he has turned Jonjo from being an erratic, immature & selfish player into one who is disciplined, team oriented and approaching his potential then that, for me, will have been his major success this season. And yes, Jonjo deserves credit if he has taken on board what his manager has told him. Different views, different opinions.

Never said he was perfect and those comments are from months ago. What seems to have escaped you is that he's improved immeasurably since then. I can only think those that can't see this are either blind, know nothing about football or have put themselves so firmly in the 'JJS is sh*t' camp that they can't accept the evidence of their own eyes. On edit: I've seen you are acknowledging that Shelvey is playing better now, so fair play. Dav won't even admit that, which is when you know you can disregard what he says as meaningless. shelvey..........what a fukking player on 12:56 - May 5 with 1472 views | perchrockjack | Dav is a good soul who can ,Im sure accept ,we all have opinions. Mine is I like Shelvey, he s a little maverick but that s good and if nothing else he can dig us out of the persistent sideways passing that we can be guilty of..oh and gfook my boots ,he can really shoot. A dangerous player for any opposition. Finally, mentally ,he is miles better and its down to the manager Im afraid ,all day long, as to why he has grown up this season.

shelvey..........what a fukking player on 13:45 - May 5 with 1424 views | karnataka | I think what Shelvey in particular and, maybe to a lesser extent, players like Montero and Barrow, have brought to our squad is something that we maybe lacked during the Rodgers & Laudrup eras, and that is unpredictability. A couple of seasons ago, many were saying, we are too predictable and have been found out. But I'm sure there are times when these players are no more able to predict what they're going to do next than either their team mates or, more importantly, the opposition. Unpredictability is a great weapon to have in football provided you are able carry off whatever it is your instincts tell you to do and provided the flashes vastly outweigh the f*ckups, then you deserve to be cut quite a bit of slack when things don't quite work. I think Shelvey has definitely swung his own pendulum towards brilliance over the past few months while Montero continues to confuse opponents as well as himself in equal measure and Barrow's rawness and pace is potentially the stuff of nightmares for tired defenders who hate players who are not afraid to make mistakes.
