I refuse to use a trough
When it comes to custard, a trough is the only way to go. It was Eynons in Mumbles when I was a nipper, it's Greggs now. Though there is a cracking shop in Pontypool that has/had incredible custard slices!! Can't remember it's name, went there when I was on a job. Don't even know if it's still there!

It took me ages to realise that you can only cut them by placing them on their sides first. My life has improved no end since.
My Nan bless her taught me to take the sticky top off, turn it over so the icing was upside down, turn it on it's side and then slice it. No waste this way and no sticky fingers!
Cheers Nan.
Tubbs: Will heaven be like Swansea? Edward: Yes, Tubbs. Only... bigger.

sorry for the off custardness of my Eynons pasty post.
They do particularly nice custard slices in Maison Blanc. Is there one in Swansea?
I also used to enjoy an egg custard tart from M&S which my Gran used to get in on a Sunday sometimes (her ultimate heaven was M&S food halls). I work in Notting Hill and there is a great Portugese Bakery called Cafe Lisboa renowned for their custard tarts called Natas. Bit rich and sweet to have more than a tiny bit, but lovely none the less. Can't beat a bit of Ambrosia (low fat of course - us ladies need to be careful) with a crumble on a Sunday.

Full of sugar and fat.
I prefer mango
You need to visit the pub Zero Degrees in Westgate St, Cardiff then Richie, they do a brew called mango beer there, I tried a pint and wasted most of it not to my taste far to sweet, got plenty of other lovely ales though.
Back on topic Verdi's do huge Custard Slices, had one with a Latte back in the summer never again, it creased me for the rest of the day

Low fat????
Biggest myth in dieting:
yes - I would tend to agree in general.
It's OK if it's not stuffed full of sugars to make up for it. The one exception actually is milk products though where as long as there is no added sugar, there is no harm in semi skimmed rather than full fat (which is the case I would think in custard - I don't know, I don't actually tend to eat processed stuff apart from once in a blue moon).
The biggest myth is rapidly being replaced by the sugar myth though. Stuffing stuff with sweeteners is awful - everyone should just train themselves to eat less sweet things not replace sugar with sweetener. And all sugars are not equal. Fruit is the great one at the moment. Everyone is on that fruit is bad for you - no it's not if you have the whole fruit not just juice on its own, As an NHS nutritionist said to me quite recently, obesity wards are not full of people that have eaten too much fruit!
