What we need to do is separate Islam from Muslims
Christianity had many problems Centuries ago and went through a significant period of Enlightenment, many of the other religions have also adjusted.
Islam is a young religion, one of the foundations of it is that it has not evolved from the 7th Century. This is not the same for other faiths, the Quran has not been amended.
There is also a great schism between the Shia elements and the Sunni's which we're now seeing with the emergence of Isis. The West does not have a dog in the fight, we have to protect our borders and stay out of these hostilities, we need to help the more progressive elements e.g. Kurds and we need to use diplomacy but fundamentally we need to realise this is going to be a long haul and we're going to have more and more of these events.
Europe needs to continue to be liberal and tolerant but it must stand up for its values of freedom & democracy and never give an inch to these people. |  | | |
