all the footballing qualities and mental strength in abundance i would have thought to play an essential role in a promoted teams survival this season.
the astute mr Pearson seems to think so.
Isla looks to be settling in,( heart in mouth for the needless diving in second half challenge in the penalty area, then waving an imaginary card in the air, poor form)
Selling a squad player who in all likelihood wouldn't have been up to it at this level for a 2 million profit sounds like great business to me. But hey let's carry on knocking the club...
I am not one to unduly criticize the club or management, but selling Simpson is a bit of a head scratcher. We don't really have a replacement for him and we can't buy a replacement for 2 million, so how does it make sense? I think Simpson was more than just solid last year. He was MOTM quality most weeks he played. Sure, he wouldn't neceaasily carry that forward into the Prem, but at worst he would be back-up quality. What if Isla is injured of does a Granero/Boswanka on us. Not everyone settles in right. Granero looked great in his first couple of games as did Boswanka. I just don't see the point of seeling him before there is someone to take his place.
Look at our width; we have Isla, Traore, Phillips and Yun. Hoilett and Adel can play out wide, but both tend to be better inside.

Simpson may have been limited in terms of attack but in terms of the his actual job, ie being a defender, he was very decent. Some short memories on here - we've all seen too many woeful right-backs here over the years to take a competent one for granted.
He might have not been in the club's long term plans, and £2m is a good sum, but as others have said the continuity and presence in the dressing room he gave us could yet prove to be worth far, far more than that, especially during our first season back as we integrate all the shiny new signings (some of whom are only on loan lest we forget). And the thing about long term plans - which again we should know very well - is they have this funny habit of not working out how you expected. Four years of Sir Clinton Hill saving our bacon time and time again attests to that.
Selling Simpson was a short-sighted and quite frankly distastefully ungrateful move in my opinion. Good luck to him - meanwhile let's hope it doesn't come back to bite us on the @rse.
