Wasn't one of the reasons for Laudrup's sacking his allegedly defeatist attitude to games against the big clubs?
I'm guessing that "pre-season" is the time for fitness and getting the squad together - hence the name like.
Board rightly have the final say on transfers (I suspect they have more input under Monk than Laudrup though) and loan agreements. It helps if you pay attention to the small print like recall dates etc. That's one of the things a chairman gets paid for. Strange, I know.
"Monk wasn't to know that Britton was to get injured" - our only defensive midfielder who'll be 32 in September.
Christ on a f*cking bike.

Laudrup got sacked for his attitude full stop! And yes Jenkins messed up with the small print but Laudrup had the opportunity to recall him before that and chose not to, Like!
As for pre season being for fitness and getting the squad together, Pellegrini and Wenger have both said their team are nowhere near the fitness they need to be yet, strange I know, like! Man utd have sold 2 left backs and now their only left back is shaw, who is unfit, they are also still looking to buy a number of players, and believe it or not they start their season on Saturday too, incredible init!
Man utd away will not define our season, Burnley at home could and that's a fact, what laudrup did was relay that attitude onto the players the media and fans which was a joke!
Every club has it's cocky clueless supporters so I suppose we are no different!

From the looks of it he would be a good buy. If him and he Napoli defender came I think I would be even more excited for this season. Would seriously be our best team so far.

Looks class in that video. Quick, desire for the ball, good in the tackle and can pick out a pass.................has a little trick in the pull back and drag and then releases the ball very quickly. A mix of a Robbie Savage and Ferrie Bodde in the video.

Nice one mate.
Back to the subject.
Like the look of this guy, seems to be similar to that Besic guy who went to Everton, we are crying out for a player who can put his foot in and put it about when needed. I'm more excited about the potential signing of this lad over the Nigerian who played for Almeria, from looking at his stats he wouldn't of been an upgrade on Canas.

Azeez wasn't a proper CDM. I'm glad we didn't go in for him as it would be a case of square pegs in round holes like with Ki, Shelvey or JDG playing there.
Each time I go to Bedd - au........................

Agreed, defensive midfield is a specialist position, and it's vital to the way we play, hence how much we miss Leon when he's not about. Gaping holes everywhere.

A year after the end of his contract, Benjamin Stambouli (23 years) is about, as was his priority, to leave France. The leaders Montpellier, claiming 5 million for their player, received a concrete offer from Swansea whose amount has not filtered. Fiorentina are also back in the race to sign midfielder approaching his entourage but the Italian club has not yet contacted the club led by Rolland Courbis. Stambouli, which was followed in particular by France Marseille and PSG (for departures and Rabiot Chantôme) could be transferred this week.

Though some players can be converted... I'm not saying Ki. But Michu was a Defensive Midfielder, then became an Attacking Mid/Shadow Striker. Leon became a Defensive Mid. If you told people back in the day little Leon was going to be our Defensive Midfielder I'm not sure many would have been thrilled.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

So when laudrup was in charge, Jenkins was at fault for incomings and outgoings. When Monk is in charge, it's Monks fault. Laudrup chose to send Ki on loan and laudrup chose not to recall him, Fact! The transfer window hasn't shut yet and monk wasn't to know that Britton was to get injured! Surely you'd rather play Ki in that position against United, a game we aren't expected to win! Than rush into a signing just because a player is injured. I see United away first game of the season, as a game to perhaps cause an upset, but more as an opportunity to get more fitness and also more time to get the squad together for when our season really starts the week after! And I wouldn't be surprised if that's how people at the club see it.
The board sign the players, Monk is their own personal Hockaday
i know nothing about the player, but judging by the other teams interested he appears more than useful. if serious, they need to go on with this quickly, or else the same thing's going to happen as with Besic.
just bite the bullet.
