Chico 12:11 - May 18 with 8949 viewsRogueTrooper

He's had some nightmare moments this season, but I personally would like to see him stay, he has popped up with a few goals, some of his tackles have been sublime, and I want players with passion in the team. I think he'll have learned from this season and will come back stronger.

I think I may be in a minority, but if you cut out the rolling around and the occasional red mist, there is one hell of a footballer there as well as being a tidy bloke off the field.

And I'm sure Garry doesn't hold a grudge either

"If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training, you will be a weapon. You will be a minister of death praying for war. But until that day you are pukes. You are the lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even human furcking beings! You are nothing but unorganized, grabastic pieces of amphibian sh1t! Because I am hard, you will not like me. But the more you hate me the more you will learn."

Technical ability should include being strong enough not be be shook easily off the ball and not being on the wrong side of a forward. His antics have shamed our club and his reds have cost us.

Feck me. I've never seen Williams roll around the pitch like big girl. Have some pride for your team ffs

Yes but I can't recall Chico rolling around like a girl since Monk has been in charge. I think some here are still stuck in the January gloom. It's Perchie's favourite time of year too

Or keep both, who's to say Amat can't learn just as much from Chico as he would Williams. After all the consensus is that Chico is an outstanding defender, just a bit eccentric. Williams is hardly immune from howlers himself.

Good grief that's not the consensus at all.

Ash is a much better and more consistent defender than Chico. He has more experience in this league and has already proven himself capable of nurturing a young defender (Caulker) alongside him.

Eh? It's definitely something you can teach. Chico is not some kind of Zidane either. He's a good passer and has a good first touch for a centre half. Hardly the traits of the footballing demigod he's portrayed as when he's on form. Amat is comfortable on the ball and does everything a centre half needs to do with the ball in this team. The ability to do step overs isn't a necessity.

No. But first time control of a moving ball whilst under pressure isn't something that can be taught. It's entirely instinctive

The ability required to control a football remains the same is entirely teachable. The context of pressure, and the ability to perform the action under pressure, is a more of a mental challenge which again can be taught alongside practice.

No but I have seen him stomp his feet like a big girl when something doesn't go his way.

Or screaming at one of his own team mates when they make a mistake. Usually a 21 year old.
Starsk, if you think Ash is as immaculate you're not being 100% objective and entirely subjective when it comes to Chico, whom you accuse of being a play actor even though he hasn't done it for months. So no player can redeem themselves then is it? They can't change ?

You mean he's been here longer so gets the BOD when he makes a mistake. I don't think there's much between them at all, completely different styles of play apart.

Nurtured Caulker? he played alongside him for just over half a season, hardly mentored him into the next Superstar. Last season he got relegated

If you've got to teach a PL footballer to control the ball then perhaps he shouldn't be a PL footballer. Like I said Amat, though not as comfortable on the ball as Chico isn't a bad player far from it. But he isn't as good as Chico and no amount of coaching is going to change that

Oh I know about Williams failings but don't compare them to Chico's play acting . Ask yourself this. If Chico was playing for any other team, and rolling around with his embarrassing antics, you'd have hated him just like the other clubs do.

No he's just a better player. Ash gets his fair share of stick on here, it's not a Britton situation with him.

There were tangible improvements in Caulker's game if you look at how he played before he came here and after he left. Caulker's poor choice of club two years later doesn't change that and I'm not sure why you mention it.

Amat can control a football just fine and he's technically just as sound as Flores. I can't take statement seriously because he's only 22 years old and to say he won't ever be as good as Flores is just ridiculous. He's got all the potential to be every bit as good, and a whole lot better, than Flores and not come with all the baggage.

If you're relying on your centre half to double up as some kind of regista then maybe you should reconsider your tactics. It's not the main characteristic you're looking for in a defender. Chico is much better on the ball than John Terry but tell me who you'd rather have?

Spot on.

People are fed up of him and they have every right to be. His performances on the pitch have been erratic and he's made costly errors. He's an experience centre half and his positioning is still awful and shows no signs of improvement. He's certainly not a bad player though and useful in our side when playing well but...

It's the plethora of other sh*te that rubs me the wrong way. The coco pops debacle which was national news and made our club look like a circus, in which he was the headline clown act. The fact that he was moping around a car park with a brick in his hand. Him rolling around the floor of the Liberty then confronting Allardyce while he p*ssed himself. Even the fuss he made over his new hairdo, whilst we were in the midst of a relegation battle, just f*cked me off.

Last season he was a bit loco but his performances justified it. This season he's been even more of a lunatic and his performances have dipped quite significantly too. You have a right to be p*ssed off, Starsky, and so does everybody else.

Go with the same 4 next season Williams & Amat to start , it's up to the other 2 to get

Keeper from me, I'd like to think that GM will discourage his play acting where ML accepted it as part of his game.

I do like him though, he makes me laugh.

Yes yes. The play acting . You have a good moan about it (even though he hasn't done it since January). Oh and while we're at it, that Nathan Dyer stole a purse from a nightclub in Portsmouth sometime in the last decade too

Just being bloody minded to prove a point Darran. Dyer turned his life around from a far worse situation and people who can't take the fact that Chico is a better footballer than Amat then turn to his play acting which he stopped doing 4 months ago. Then they moaned about him getting sent off twice in a month when the first red was taken for the team (after Vorm and Amat, got caught out by Glenn Murray who outfoxed the both of them and was going to score) and two innocuous yellows against refs favourites Chelsea.
I'm just sticking up for one of our players who is unjustly getting stick, that's all.

Bryn that's a ludicrous comparison mate. Your analogy doesn't make any sense.

Amat is a fine player who has the tools to be just as good as Chico. By the time he gets to Chico's age he'll likely be a much better player. Most Swansea fans are fed up of Chico's antics and his mistakes on the field and want a steadier player alongside Ash. It's nothing personal, just want to see the highest standard of defending on the field.
