I read this yesterday, the headline and story contradicted themselves, or was it just me ? So I gave up.

The guy must be livid.
He's supporting Monk by saying he'll swim the channel if Monk is sacked... And the Newspaper prints the opposite in the headline and first paragraph.
On the second paragraph they finally get it right. What a rag.

It's just the internet, init.

Cheers Starsky, I was beginning to doubt myself. How can a paper get it so wrong ?

This thread has finally moved me to post for the first time in many years. A number of people have commented that they could tell that Roberto, Rodgers or Laudrup were going to be a success after 10 games and that they can tell that Garry Monk won't be after his games in charge. (I'm ignoring here some spectacular reworking of the comments that were made after certainly the first two of these appointments).
They seem to be deliberately missing one crucial difference - Roberto, Rodgers etc had a preseason to assess the squad, select the players that they wanted to add to that squad and implement the training style and tactics that they wanted without the interruption of crucial games once or twice a week. Garry Monk has not yet had this opportunity.
He took over a squad that was already in place - no additions were possible, and any changing of training, tactics etc have been restricted to an extent by the games to be played and the need for survival points.
No one can know what the team or playing style will look like until he has had a chance to choose his own players and work with the squad through a preseason. It's an easy criticism to say that the Board have chosen a cheap option, or should have looked to 'insert name of previously famous player' instead but if the appointment does work, and no one can say at this stage whether it will or not, then it could bring a much needed few years of stability to the club.
It may prove to be a mistake, in which case we can be sure that action would be taken, but some of the vitriol being spouted here is utterly without foundation. Surely the one thing that the club deserves is support - that doesn't mean that concern shouldn't be expressed, but comments such as 'we are definitely going to go down' or 'I can't wait to be proved right' are a disgrace.

Martinez didn't have a pre-season, he took us over in February and on to an incredible run.

Joe_bradshaw -I thought the cryochamber was the new name for Cardiff's stadium.

English degrees from most universities are worth f*ck all these days.

My wife's niece recently graduated with one from Reading and didn't know The Great Gatsby was a novel...

Let's get one thing straight. Nobody wants Garry to fail.

Secondly, how is it okay for the 'Pro Monk' supporters to be looking forward to 'rubs it in the faces' of the concerned supporters, yet when the concerned supporters post a tongue in cheek comment about looking forward to being proved right, it 'proves they are not a true fan' or whatever the silly comment was posted above?

Bunch of hypocrites.

If you need that question answered then it tells us much

Well seeing as we very recently appointed someone full time to the commercial role of whatever it is Dineen does now, it is an improvement and it is getting somewhere yes.

Congratulations on campaigning for an appointment that happened over 12 months ago.

You really are visionary

Martinez didn't have a pre-season, he took us over in February and on to an incredible run.

I understand that - sorry, badly worded - I meant that the team which now everyone refers to as the 'Martinez team/ style of play' was, from memory, put into place that summer. You're right though - he did take over in the Feb and again from memory, people were uncertain until after that summer about him.
Those first few games before his preseason ended in that game against Blackpool didn't it? We lost 6 2 or 6 3 at home? I can only imagine the abuse from some if this team had lost 6 3 last weekend in the final home game under Monk - there would be no end of moaning.
None of this really changes the point - it's only once Monk has chance to put his team together this summer that anyone will know how it's going to work out.
At the moment, there are two camps - people such as myself who are saying we don't know and let's give him a chance and people saying he will definitely fail. I don't think anyone is saying he will definitely be a great success and is definitely the best person for the job - none of us know. Just trying to point out that equally no one knows he'll definitely be a failure and some of the points being made about wanting to be proved right by him failing are ridiculous.
