If I had to pick my favourite Rock'n'Roll artist of all time, Leon Russell would win the award hands down. Nobody remotely close. Superlative musician and consummate artist!
I can still remember as if it were yesterday the very first time I ever heard one of his recordings -- every detail of the experience - and it was in the late 60s or very early 70s. [I had heard him before probably thousands of times working with other artists, but didn't know he was there.]
Watch this video of his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; and if you will watch it to the very end, you'll thank me.
By the way, he's still not bad at age 70 on this video. [p.s. who's the guitarist accompanying him on "My Song for You"?]
