Which stand do you go in? 00:28 - Jan 19 with 3222 views | BrighouseDale | I've been thinking. Although I'm the first to admit I don't get to half as many games as I'd like, when I do go I always watch from The Sandy. I much prefer standing up at football, and the banter / songs tickle me sideways. Especially the abuse aimed at Plymouth's fat lad today. However, on boxing day I watched from the main stand as my brother paid for a hospitality package with meals in the player's lounge. It was somewhat quieter but the view was ten times better than that in The Sandy Lane. So many posters on here seem able to give great analysis of the games we play, and it got me thinking, how many of the messageboard regulars actually watch from The Sandy? When that second goal went in today I was about a second behind everyone else, I couldn't actually see the ball go over the line after it bounced off the post.

Which stand do you go in? on 00:37 - Jan 19 with 2707 views | dale_spotland | Pearl street for me as high as possible, the atmosphere is no doubt better in the sandy but the view is terrible, last time I went in the sandy I found myself reacting on the fans in the pearl street to let me know if the ball had gone in! I also like to see the runs made by attacking players, something which is nearly impossible in the sandy.

Which stand do you go in? on 00:46 - Jan 19 with 2685 views | BrighouseDale | Sounds lovely, it just feels odd sitting down for the duration of the game. Now if only the football league would crack on with this revolutionary terracing idea... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25269939 If I could stand in the TDS, even for £18 I'd be happy as Larry.

Which stand do you go in? on 01:03 - Jan 19 with 2660 views | Windy_dale | I'm not a fan of sitting being quite tall. , I like to move about. I used to like smoking minature cigars at the back until they banned smoking. I've watched from the willbuts and then the Sandy until 2009. But... Since moving to the main Stand in 2010...the views and match experience are dramatically enhanced. Its no longer like watching a game in HD ready plasma, its like viewing in 3D with fkin LED or the like.. You can track the offisides and see see if the linesmans bent..your closer to the game and see the technique and dirty challenges.. ..you can be heard shouingt encouragement to the subs warming up to go on...tell ginge to fck off...hear hilly bawling at the players and gving instructions... see the goals scored at both ends. I move seats from Pearl end half time and fck off back to sandy I love it in the main stand.

Must admit, watching us against Mansfield from the main stand I felt much more involved. You've hit the nail on the head really, watching from The Sandy is almost like watching a game on telly or a mate playing on the Xbox. Watching from the side it felt like you were actually there, even heard Hendo (if memory serves) telling the linesman to feck off. I'm bringing a few rugby fans to watch us against Accrington in March, I went to see a Leicester Tigers game last year which was absolute torture, now I'm inflicting the same on them. Think I'll stick to The Sandy on that occasion for the complete "bread and butter" experience, but if I come on my own in future I might just bite the bullet and join the pensioners in the Main Stand.

Mainstand Older but not a pensioner, I prefer the wide view of the game, seeing a move develop along the length of the pitch. Also at the moment we can move from one end of the stand to the other, following and preferring to see us score the goals rather than the defending end of the game. Love it!

Which stand do you go in? on 12:38 - Jan 19 with 2236 views | YouTubeDale | You get the whole picture sat in the Main Stand. I've got good eyesight but whenever I sit behind the goal at other grounds I am not 100% certain what is happening around the far goal area. The big sacrifice of course is the lack of atmosphere in the Main Stand. It would be heaven if the Sandy Laners came in with us with their vocal "charm", wit , Dale repertoire and general banter. I could hear the banter with the fat Plymouth supporter yesterday and it would be good to join in. Yes, there are encouraging noises coming out of the Main Stand, including "Come on Dale!!!!", but not enough for me. Most people in the Main Stand don't want to sing and for those like me who do, well, you just have to accept it... Unless there is a Moggy out there who can move mountains!!!

Which stand do you go in? on 12:45 - Jan 19 with 2224 views | BeckWMG | Was a sandy lander as a teenager. Sat in the WMG as it was for the friendly against Bolton (correct me if I'm wrong) for the opening of the stand and sat in there ever since. Have been lucky enough to get the odd ticket for the lounge this year so have watched 6 games from the main stand and love the view there. For old times sake though me and an old pal got tickets for the Sandy for the Leeds game and I loved it. Forgot what it's like to end up 10m from where you were originally stood when dale score and to grab some random bloke and jump around for a bit! Got my tickets for the Sandy today for the Wednesday game | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Well the view is similar yes, but you're naturally much closer to the action. Watching from the terrace, anything past the half way line seems miles away.

Which stand do you go in? on 14:15 - Jan 19 with 2145 views | ArthurDaley | Tried different ends to the ground, but the one I like most I cant get in, the away stand on Wilbutts Lane, i tried it against Darlington the year Darlo went down, great view all round, with no bl**dy poles in the way. ( not them poles from Poland). Been in the Sandy Lane this season, but the legs have gone. So its the Pearl St for me from now on.

Which stand do you go in? on 18:50 - Jan 19 with 2026 views | millsy1968 | Im fortunate to be able to venture into any stand, the best view in the ground is by far the Willbutts Lane mainly used for the away fans. Never been quite able to understand this but it was open last year to home fans last year.Watched O Grady take us up against Northampton from there, the sound seems to project better as well. 100 away fans can generate a lot of noise. The main stand is good but unfortunatly houses those who wish to air their negative comments much to the annoyance of our messiah. Pearl street offers a good atmosphere with both hardcore fans and occasional supporters adding to the match day banter. Sandy Lane great atmosphere but poor view consequently cheapest admission.

Having been in all areas of the ground, the main stand houses no more negative supporters than anywhere else. Following fitzochris' lead: 1982 - 90: Main stand paddock then Sandy depending which way we were shooting. 90-92: Wilbutts then Sandy, as above. (when did moving areas of the ground end? around this time?) 92-98: Sandy 98-2009: Pearl St 2009- present: Main Stand.

My first Dale game was about 1995, came in at Wilbutts Lane and walked all the way round the pitch at various periods of the game. I think it stopped shortly after that, so possibly 95/96. On a separate note, can't believe my first Dale game was almost 20 years ago!

Which stand do you go in? on 21:47 - Jan 19 with 1890 views | R17ALE | Started off sitting on the perimeter wall on Willbutts on the half way line in 1983. Did my apprenticeship in Willbutts and moved to The Sandy circa 1985 leaning on the wall behind the net. As the years go by you can move further back. I'm now on the back step behind the net waiting for the grim reaper or a Hendo rasper! When we shoot towards Pearl Street, I stand near the corner flag betwixt Sandy and Willbutts and the view is excellent from that angle mostly. And there are a lot of those 'die hard' faces over that way too abusing the liner! And, you can hear the away fans retorts to the 'banter'. Plymouth gave it the grooming card on one occasion. And the shithole song too. There was an occasion, circa 1990, when Rochdale was in the news for a similar kids episode, and we travelled to Burnley. The roar from the Longside was, "What's it like to shag your kids?" At the time I shrugged and smiled. What would be the reaction today to that chant?

Must admit, I didn't think the "what's it like to kill a kid" chant on Saturday was exactly hilarious. Fair enough, the guy made some monumental mistakes, but I wouldn't want football supporters singing about my kids for a cheap dig. Although I'm sure others will have their own point of view.

Which stand do you go in? on 09:28 - Jan 20 with 1699 views | ChaffRAFC | Been going in the Sandy for years now. Think I started off in the Sandy Lane as a small boy, then went in the Main Stand, then when the WMG opened we went in there for a year or so before going back to the Sandy. There's nothing quite like the Sandy, the atmosphere is the best in the ground by a distance and it doesn't matter how poor the view is, the atmosphere and the fact all my mates go in there will keep me going in there.

Which stand do you go in? on 12:03 - Jan 20 with 1635 views | TomRAFC | Sandy 1994 - Present. The view ins't as good as the main stand I grant you. The banter is far superior though. You can move around and talk to folks. You don't risk crushing your Johnson having to slip along aisles everytime you want a Bovril. I have sat at various away grounds, and you simply cannot socialise with as many people because of the seating. Seating also stops those incredible near death celebrations. I wasn't quite sure where I went during both the Leeds goals!

That's good to know, cheers, I shall make a note of that. I know Lance goes but seem to have lost touch with him, apart from the time in June when I bumped into him in Portugal!

I used to enjoy walking round to the Willbutts Lane stand when we played towards the Pearl Street end, apart from that Scunthorpe game. Now I sit in the TDS stand. I have a good view and you get to know the people around you. Not into standing now, when I watch Sale Sharks I stand there and it is hard work. It must be old age!

Bloody hell lad, the elbow incident was right in front of us. I went absolutely mental when I saw it. Awful challenge. The view is better than people make out but obviously inferior to the Main Stand which I went in a couple of times last season.
