It's rare to see such warmth for a player who actually before January was not our own; but as the permanent transfer of Marvin Emnes looks increasingly likely, few would be unhappy at this news.

Forget for a second the reported fee of £1 million, a bargain really for a versatile player with pace, who can play up front or behind the centre forward, there is more to it than the fee. I cannot speak for every Swans' fan, but there seems a strange, almost unorthodox warmth towards the Dutchman.

It isn't too difficult to see the birthplace of this affection, but when one thinks of Marvin Emnes, the usual thought would be the winner in the 1-0 victory at Cardiff during his short loan spell in the season Brendan Rodgers gained promotion to the promised land. Since then, he seemed to be linked with a permanent switch almost every transfer window. When his loan happened last January, despite not being a prominent Championship scorer, it was well received generally.

Garry Monk gave him his first start in his own debut (managerial of course) once again in a win against Cardiff, where Emmes excelled in a midfield role, before he was substituted.

Since then, despite his peripheral role until his goal at Sunderland on the final day of the season, ask the majority of fans their stance and arguably most would want him to stay.

For a million, Monk could have a high energy, hard working versatile player, who works hard and picks up the odd goal here and there. You would never want him over Michu or Bony, a duo that on face value could be mouth watering next season. Although, he certainly falls into the 'strength in depth' column.

Every team has fickle fans, although it is usually quite amusing to see the difference in opinion with loan signings. Few will groan about the ended loan spell of young Spaniard Alvaro Vasquez, yet Emnes should be a popular signing, along with the potential signing of fellow Dutchman Luc Castaignos.

If ever Vasquez should return to the Premier League, he will come with a valuable knowledge: score in a derby win and everyone wants you to stay for life!
