There’s not a lot going on transfer wise regards the Swans at least. No signings after seventeen days but we are seemingly determined to get players in. Plus there’s the derby tomorrow as well. To cap that off Luke is going scouting abroad.
In a week when the Swans have three games.
Chairman, Andrew Coleman has been knocked back in his bid to sign Joe Low from Wycombe Wanderers. If you recall we pointed out some of the issues in our last report on Low, but whatever they were a club that doesn’t want to let a player go regardless is where we are at. We have no doubt that the Swans will return in the summer, and will continue this month, but even then there is still profit and sustainability to take into account. The Swans are still determined to capture him is still the word.
We are still very much perplexed that a head coach is flying to the Netherlands on Sunday, nineteen days into the transfer window to ‘assess’ (his words) two players who are playing on Sunday in the Eredivisie. Well, we would hope they are of that standard although there’s clubs in the Eerste Divisie who do have some decent players, but that league doesn’t compare with the Championship. Plus, if that’s the level he is aiming for there’s just the one game on Sunday, FC Emmen v FC Eindhoven. However, we have to expect him to be aiming higher. If that’s the case then he could easily make two top flight games on Sunday. For us it just sounds odd that with so much hope given to the supporters just before new year and as we went in to this window that we gave a manager off to ‘assess’ players with twelve days left of the transfer window this Sunday.
It’s clear the Swans have no other trusted coaches to do this, so the face of the club is now taking on that role as well. None of this is good, yes people will disagree with us and that’s fair, and we always welcome dialogue. But the Dutch second division aside he has a choice of -

So, it’s quite feasible for Luke as the manager of Swansea City to travel to two games if they sync into what he wants to see. The very fact he is abroad two days before the Swans take on Sheffield United, ‘assessing’ players because there’s nobody else trusted at the club to do so raises our concerns. It isn’t normal, yes managers watch players but not in this way after the ‘hard work’ we are told that has gone in to getting business done early in the window. All of this may come good, but surely there’s some people reading this who think this just isn’t right ?
Safe travels Luke, and of course we hope it will all come to fruition.
