Swansea City : Is Luke thinking this out ? ‘ Call my agent’ West Brom

Swansea City head coach, Luke Williams is either not thinking through his responses to the latest news of West Bromwich Albion being linked to his services, or he’s asking them to come and get him. In any event his remarks post match after a 2-1 win against Luton Town are extremely questionable.

Or is he playing a close game ? Hedging his bets ?

When asked about this latest link this evening he stated, "They can phone my agent and leave me to do my job here. That's the reason for having the agent” Not a response that you would possibly expect from Williams ? Things like he has a job to do at Swansea, nor a dismissive response stating that he isn’t interested. No, according to some Luke has decided to throw his hat into the ring by stating there’s a clear pathway to his agent if West Bromwich Albion want to contact him.

Do we agree ? It’s more than a closed question. However, on the face of it he is obviously protecting his choices in the immediate that seems certain. Do we blame him ? Not at all, because he is openly not committing himself to Swansea City as it stands this evening. Maybe that’s something for the new investors and Chairman, Andrew Coleman to review ?

Luke hasn’t been at the Swans for a year yet and despite some decent performances he has just a 37% win rate as Swans head coach. Of course that is improving for sure. That’s only eighteen wins in all the time he has been at Swansea from forty eight games played. Transfer that to the end of the season, and settling into a new role at a club that expect results quickly will determine the Baggies won’t make the play offs this season.

Coupled with his responses thereafter we ask these questions. "I love Swansea so we'll see” (see what Luke ? ) "I don't believe that's true for a start” (It is and he knows it) "Secondly, we have a game every three days so I've well and truly got my head down and I'm not interested in that for the time being " (for the time being ? What does that tell you ?) Those responses are weak and leave too many questions unanswered. That’s a fans point of view, a more neutral source may well see it far more differently.

Baggies fans don’t seem to happy with this link either.

Now, even if we run through the scenario of it’s all a load of old nonsense, then why didn’t Luke just say that (but he knows it isn’t !) and in any event his future is at Swansea ? Why make these confusing comments leaving the door open ? There is of course a reason, he is open to discussions. Away from that of course he is hardly likely to get the job with the market pretty full of better candidates.

Added to our report earlier there has been no arrangements to interview Luke this coming week, that is nonsense. And Andrew Coleman hasn’t been approached by West Brom as of 8pm tonight either.

That’s here ⚽️ Initial report

The annoying thing is this could have been wiped out by Luke Williams post match, plus the official site interview contained none of this news. That’s fine, nobody is expected to professionally not want to be linked to jobs that pay more money. We get that. But to answer as unprofessionally as Luke Williams has displays a man hedging his bets and using the media to place them.

Just be honest. Or are we to hear later this week when it’s obvious he is out of his league that he never intended to leave anyway ? If that’s the case say it now ! Yes, we know integrity and football are hardly good bed fellows.

But he is on the brink of something good at Swansea, and West Brom won’t give him the time to do anything similar at the Hawthorns, that’s for sure.

Honestly Luke do you really believe your PR ! Swans crash at Pompey
If Swansea City could be any more unimaginative and weak in an away fixture this season it will signal that Luke Williams really hasn’t got the credentials to lead this Swansea team to anything other than complete mediocrity. The very fact he is being linked with West Bromwich Albion (it isn’t a rumour Luke, as you well know) tells us he has already lost heart in this Swansea side, and his reluctance to speak truthfully about it is an insult to Swansea fans.
