Over the past month we have managed most of the Swans rumours on the Indy and tried to find out the more lucid bits of information to report. We always try to go add context from behind the news and of course as you would expect offer as accurate information as possible.
It’s not about being first it’s about being as accurate as possible.
A number of people have contacted us about the profit and sustainability rules we mention, so let’s start there today and look at our recent reports. This will help.

It’s important that a website offers more than news reports and speculation. It has to build a concrete foundation through good investigative work and offer real context. That’s what we do here at the Indy. The reports above will explain profit & sustainability and when applied we all get the reasons why Swansea City will only become active from today in real financial terms. The work, or some of the ground work has been done, and as we reported with Gautier Ott it doesn’t always come off.

It’s okay mentioning in a few words that the deal is off, but surely people want to know why ? Who is behind it ? What are their credentials ? Is there any history ? And of course how did we get to this point. That’s what we do with some very decent research from Liam amongst others.
Moving on from that, what do we know today ?
We understand if everything goes smoothly for Jerry Yates he is likely to be announced as a Derby County player very shortly. Their supporters are split on the loan transfer, but for the Swans and Yates it is certainly a move that was needed. No hitches now surely ?
Eom Ji-Sung is wanted in west Wales around Wednesday or Thursday after the finer print on the deal is examined and signed off. There doesn’t seem to be any issues with his fitness and he can hit the ground running when it comes to training. At twenty two and cited as a genuine star of the future there will be a weight of expectation on his shoulders.
People are most certainly putting two and two together regards Nathan Tjoe-A-On. We haven’t heard anything about U’s striker Mark Harris being of interest, but we do know Oxford United are finding the Indonesian an interesting prospect for their Championship campaign. The fact two clubs are linked (Swansea and Oxford) and have players available will always tweak interest. However, if Mark Harris is of value to the Championship, especially Swansea then why isn’t he earmarked to stay at Oxford ? The fact he is from Swansea seems to be the only accurate fact being reported, at this time of course.
Macaulay Langstaff remains of interest to the Swans as they pursue a genuine striker for the coming season. However, there have been no official bids, and no ‘official’ discussions as of today. That doesn’t mean that the Swans are not interested, it just means that the addition of Langstaff at this point in time isn’t progressing. However, it’s now July 1st and the rest of this summers finances don’t have to be declared until 2026. That gives Swansea a genuine opportunity to start making progress from today in the players they want. Will there be an approach ? We still think yes, Swans head coach, Luke Williams would be delighted if Langstaff could be secured. Millwall have most certainly made an offer, but surely after spending two million pounds on Kevin Nisbett last summer, and he flopped in a far bigger way than Jerry Yates, they must be cautious ? The deal for them has to be well structured and achievable with rumours of a total deal around two million pounds being bandied about. What we know is that if the Swans do not make an official move for Langstaff by the end of this week he will most certainly be off the radar, surely ?
This again is where profit & sustainability comes in.
Due to the vast amount of business the Swans did after last years cut off date of June 30th 2023, these figures will be in next years (2025) declarations. The loans deals for Sagoe Jr, Rushworth, Lowe, Ashby, Patino and Humphreys would have been factored in with little financial impact as such, however they will fall in with the profit & sustainability rules. What really matters is that the purchases of the following players came after last years deadline. They will be factored in 2025.
Jerry Yates, Mykola Kukharevych, Josh Key (not disclosed) Josh Tymon, Nathan Tjoe-A-On and Ronald all came in for around 7.5 to 8 million. The structure and payments on these players are not known. Then we have to look at the post June 30th 2023 transfers out. All of these players left in July and August or January. Again they will not be reflected in any finances until 2026. Joel Piroe, Morgan Whittaker, Oliver Ntcham, Michael Obafemi, Steven Benda, Joel Latibeaudiere (Development fee £500k) and Brandon Cooper all added to the Swans coffers. Around twenty million pounds, again what structures for them to leave we do not know, but we can assure you the Swans received quite a few million pounds from Leeds United for Piroe last month. With these approximations the Swans are actually doing okay, especially with regards to straight forward transfer economics.
There is clear profit there.
There are numerous sell on percentages as well. Piroe and Whittaker especially. This is why we will now see more business this month by the Swans, the club are renowned for last minute business, and bar Tymon it hasn’t been a good strategy. With the salaries of all the players leaving also reflecting in these figures (money saved) the players coming in last year won’t be on those salary levels. The desire of the club to reduce their monthly outgoings on salaries is also working. Remember these figures are based in general on players in and out only. Player trading as the American majority ownership once called it.
That’s the situation today on the Swans, but don’t bet against it all changing now we are into July.
