Latest updates on Swansea City’s transfer interests

Swansea City have been connected to Macauley Langstaff and Adama Sidibeh in recent times, and today we can announce as yet no offers have been made for either player, and in St Johnstone’s case there has been absolutely no interest at all.

Langstaff, who today was announced as Notts County club captain by his employers has responded by stating, "Going back only a few years, if you’d told me I’d be in this position now I wouldn’t have believed you. It feels like every year is getting better and better – going from scoring goals at Gateshead to breaking records at Notts County has been special, but to then be named captain of the world’s oldest professional club is unbelievable. But I don’t want to stop here. I want to keep improving, earn more success and keep writing the story with Notts County.”

There of course is a clear issue for Langstaff if he decides to remain at Notts County. He is twenty eight next birthday, and in a prime situation to increase his salary considerably, if a club comes in for him. We aren’t even going to argue with anyone regards the connection between him and Swansea head coach, Luke Williams. That’s evident, and they do speak, Luke in fact keeps close tabs on numerous players he has managed, they are friends as well as old acquaintances, no indication of anything else of course, but every manager does this.

We can now state that Plymouth Argyle are increasing their interest in Langstaff, and that signals good news for the Swans if Morgan Whittaker moves on from the Devon club. There is a very decent sell on clause for the Swans, that’s the positive. The negative is that with increased interest Swansea need to move quickly or get a straight forward ‘No’ from the player himself. Rumours of talks with the Swans have only been tentative but for Luke Williams, Langstaff remains a priority.

Plus Jodie Jones, who is also happy at the Magpies. On his league record for assists last season (24) he said, "It felt absolutely amazing if I am being honest. It was the main target I set myself at the start of the season, to stay fit and play as many games as possible. So, as it was getting closer, I was getting more and more excited as it is a question that everybody has asked and I was definitely doubted, whether or not I could complete a full season” Without Jones, Langstaff would not have scored the totals he did last season. It’s without question that Williams would like both at the Swans, however, there is still a lot of work to do.

Much of this will transpire this summer, not least the declarations made by Chairman, Andrew Coleman to Williams when he was brought to the Swans from County in January. Pledges on support and money available will have to materialise come this summer. Regardless of the joy County fans are now posting on social media on the captain's armband being given to Langstaff many who have an insight in to how football works will be spending this summer very nervously. The timing of the announcement by County just four days before the window opens shouldn’t be lost on anyone. They’ve played it well, and without an out and out admission now from Langstaff, clubs will still see him as a target. This latest news also puts Langstaff right in to the media’s spotlight, and that includes clubs and agents who do their bidding for clubs and players.

This next contract if he was to leave County, even to the Swans would be in the region of three years and keeping within the pay structure of Swansea. That could easily be one and a half million pounds in total. It now depends on the words of Andrew Coleman and the ruthlessness of the club to go and get their man.

No matter how a more lucid take on the current situation has been made this will annoy Notts County followers, you have to be realistic. Jodie Jones was linked in January, we did profiles on him on this website as well. However, it’s early days and nothing is certain nor concrete.

We now know that Adama Sidibeh at St Johnstone is one in amongst a large list of players Sporting Director, Paul Watson has. However, nothing whatsoever has been received by the Saints, no inquiry, phone calls or bids. The report of a five hundred thousand pounds bid from the Swans via other outlets is far beyond any truth.
