Swansea City : Warning ! History must not repeat itself today

The Swans make the one hundred mile journey from their base at St George’s Park in Staffordshire to Ewood Park, Blackburn later this morning. The squad have spent the last two days at England’s training base readying themselves for this afternoons test.

And a test it will be.

The weather for fans attending the game is mild with sunshine and showers, ideal again for a football match to hopefully break out in Lancashire this afternoon. With just five points separating the Swans and the play offs it’s games like this that have to be seized upon. However, there must not be any repeat history today. The Swans haven’t won at Ewood Park in all competitions since 1971. Since then they have played the Riversiders ten times losing six and drawing four. Back in 1971, way before the John Toshack glory days the Swans had just become a city by two years and were doing rather well in division three.

In fact the first time the Swans tasted FA Cup glory was way back in 1915 in the first round of the competition when sixteen thousand crammed in to the old Vetch Field. The Swans won 1-0 which was heralded as a huge cup shock. With the help of Swans 100 we have managed to resource some information from that game. The real fact regards the history of this game is it must not be a day where history repeats itself. There are some pretty dismal stats around for Blackburn v Swansea, if your a Swans fan that is, and possibly a surprising one as well.

We will have more news on todays game later on including a pre match teams feature and latest information straight from Ewood Park.
