New Saints offer for Wood as Duff’s first eleven plans for Preston stutter

Southampton have come back to the Swans with a seven million pounds offer plus add ons amounting to ten million this morning. That has to some extent scuppered Michael Duff’s plans as Wood was expected to travel north for the Swans away game at Preston today.

We have been told that the clubs are very close to an agreement as the add ons are achievable as opposed to the the last speculative bid on Tuesday evening. Having lost out in the pursuit of Joel Piroe the Saints won’t want a double whammy in one week. We also now know that Wood has asked to leave the club if an offer comes in and most certainly is very aware of Russell Martin’s interest.

Speaking yesterday Michael Duff stated, "Players aren’t daft, they’ve all got agents, you know, social media is everywhere. It’s not like I bury my head in the sand and going I hope no one’s talking to them. I’m pretty confident people will be talking to them. Whether they should be or shouldn’t be ? "

That comment was nicely rounded off by the Swans manager, and as we have always stated on here players talk to players, there are agents talking to agents, and even clubs employ agents to do their groundwork. Only a martian would disagree.

With this latest news and offer on the table it looks like the Swans will agree to these terms. The only real issue for Swansea City is it now looks like Nathan Wood ‘may well’ have played his last game for Swansea City. That is if the club want to do business today or will they delay matters until next week.

It is Southampton after all.
