Russell Martin flies to the USA for talks : Ogbene latest ‘Swans ahead’

Russell Martin heads to Washington DC this week, we believe tomorrow morning to meet with the majority owners of Swansea City. It won’t be seen as crucial talks, but we know that Martin is now keen to establish where he stands at the club with interest from newly relegated Southampton ( unconfirmed ) and Leicester City.

The Swansea manager wants it made clear where his future is seen at the club, and what the new investment ( yet to be announced ) will give him to plan for the new season. He is yet to have anything confirmed by the club despite some mutterings from new Chairman Andrew Coleman. Followers of the Swans are yet to hear anything further from him after a strange club tweet by him last weekend. That seems odd in itself some eight days after the event.

The club is clearly now in a state of flux. The manager and his staff need guarantee’s after wasting two months of planning for their players wish list to be cast aside in January by Jason Levien. That in itself has signalled changes with Josh Marsh and CEO Julian Winter conspicuous by their absence over the last two weeks.

The good news is that the Swans have held talks with Chiedozie Ogbene this year who is soon to be out of contract at Rotherham United. The Millers are prepared to offer him a break the bank deal to keep him in Yorkshire. We have been told he doesn’t want to sign as the Millers cannot fulfil his ambitions to play in the premier league. That in itself would have been laughed at after Martin took the Swans on a frustrating run of losses and draws in the new year. However, it’s clear now his progression over the last two months will offer a lot of hope to new signings if they decide to come to the Swansea.Com stadium.

Our thoughts are he will head to the premier league.

The majority ownership are set to make their announcements of future plans after talks with Martin this week. What we can be assured of is things are progressing, but they won’t be as quick as everyone wants. The club now need to understand that whatever process they are putting in place has to be sooner rather than later as players won’t hang around forever.

We will keep you up to date on everything as we get it as the season ends and flows towards the new campaign.
