Swansea City are going down ? History talks to us !

Despite fears to the contrary the chances of Swansea City being relegated are apparently so beyond it is virtually impossible. Your eyebrows are now raised, I see that but history states it’s a nigh on impossibility with so many games to go until the end of the season. So, let’s have a look if that’s the actual reality.

Remember we are talking the Swans here, and if a trend needs to be bucked …

The last two season are a rough guide, but there are other stats to prove the thoeory. Last season the championship table finished as below. The Swans were a better side last season than this, for us that’s not even a sensible argument to have. Here are the bottom handful of clubs.

Than the season before, like this. Not much difference at the end of the season above, and if we gauge the previous two campaigns there is little to worry about. All seems well, nothing to fear and talk of relegation would be dismissed.

Covid affected the 2020 table throughout and when it ended the placings were somewhat of an anomaly. We really can’t give this season much consequence for the Swans. But there will be others.

Pre covid the championship again ended as pretty much predicted. However this was the strongest championship for years.

Let’s quickly have a look at how strong this league was ! It’s astonishing how just a few years back which sides were actually fighting for a premier league place.

In 2018 we saw a familiar finish.

That’s the previous five seasons accounted for but we can look back further. At the end of the 2017 season we do see something’s which could concern the supporter who still feels the Swans are in danger. However, even the dogfight between Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest ended both clubs on fifty one points. Two goals the difference keeping Forest up.

The season ending 2016 most certainly should add some confidence even the most negative of Swansea City supporter. This was the season Burnley went up as champions and Middlesbrough as runners up.

We are getting some years away from now but 2015 saw Bournemouth and Watford go up. Forty one points escaped relegation.

2014 : Leicester City are champions and Burnley go up as runners up. Forty four points and a decent goal difference keeps you up.

2013 : The season the Swans won the League Cup. Wolves get relegated ! Bristol City as well in a high points scoring season, this is the warning sign for Russell Martin.

So, should we really be concerned ?. The key thing here is the Swans have a very decent goal difference, many of these seasons reflect differently for the bottom three. That goal difference really is worth a point.

What do you think will happen this season ?
