Saints Look To Weston ! McKennie That Is !

Saints are said to be looking to Weston McKennie to replace Pierre Emile Hojbjerg in the Saints midfield according to reports in Germany where the USA born player is currently plying his trade with Schalke 04.

Weston McKennie will not turn 22 until the end of next month, but he already has three solid seasons for Schalke under his belt as well as 19 caps for the United States International side.

The player looks set to leave the Bundesliga side this summer with a number of clubs, such as Leicester and Newcastle, apparently joining Saints plus sides from Spain, Germany and France in the race to sign the American international.

However reports say that McKennie would prefer a move to the Premier League, Transfermarkt have his value at around £18 million pounds and Saints are likely to have to pay that given he has 4 years left on his contract.

He is a versatile player who can play in several other positions, he usually plays in the centre of the midfield for Schalke in a forward position, although this season he has also featured as a defensive lynchpin, on the right hand side and on several occasions as a central defender.

He may first have come into our radar two years ago in China, when he played for the German side against Saints in Shanghai in a match that saw a 3-3 draw.

Saints will hope to complete the deal for Hojbjerg quickly although Spurs usual trick of bidding low as well as the suspicion that they haven't got the money to match Everton's bid accepted last week my delay things.
