Southampton FC Contribute To 75,000 Football Kits For Africa

Southampton FC have contributed to a collection of 75,000 football kits for charity initiative Kits For Africa

Southampton FC have contributed to a record-breaking 75,000 pieces of football kit donated by fans of English football clubs to a kit donation campaign which supports underprivileged grassroots football teams in Africa. "Kits For Africa” was launched three years ago by global technology and entertainment brand, and sponsor of Southampton FC, SportPesa.

The Saints participated in the campaign alongside SportPesa’s other partner clubs Hull City, Everton FC, and non-league side Loughborough Dynamo. This season alone, fans and players of Southampton have contributed a massive 14,100 kits to the initiative.

The incredible success of the campaign would not have been possible without the contribution of the fan community at Southampton.

SportPesa has a continued commitment to building and developing grassroots football in the countries where they operate and, since the company’s inception in 2014, they have quickly established themselves as a community focused organisation. The Kits For Africa campaign is part of this pledge to transform lives in Africa.

Shaun Simmonds, Head of Marketing at SportPesa said: "Kits For Africa has been a real success story of our football partnerships and we are delighted to be able to celebrate this achievement with our partner clubs and their fans. SportPesa has a proud history of supporting grassroots sport globally and we’re incredibly grateful to everybody that donated their kits to communities who simply don’t have the same opportunities many of us do.”

David Thomas, Commercial Director of Southampton Football Club said, "We have been proud to work with SportPesa on such a meaningful campaign and to see the incredible response of our fans to it. As a result of their generosity, our supporters have helped to make a real difference to many communities in Africa.”

Preston North End manager, Paul Heckingbottom is defiant in his comments that tonight’s game against Swansea City (7:45pm) is far more important than their forthcoming FA Cup tie against Aston Villa. It’s most certainly an attempt to take his players minds of that tie to concentrate on the league.
