Swansea City v York City - Match Preview

It's cup time at the Liberty tonight as the Swans welcome York City to the Liberty Stadium for the first time as the two sides go head to head in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

The Swans of course won this competition back in 2013 and there is little doubt in my mind that we would fancy a repeat trip to Wembley and a similar result this time around. I had a feeling we were on our way there last season but a bad refereeing decision at Anfield cost us a place in the quarter final otherwise I genuinely believe we could have had another day at Wembley.

Not too worry on that this time around but we have a chance to et off on another memorable journey after we were handed a favourable draw as we enter the competition.

Ironically York beat Bradford City in the first round, the team that we conquered on that memorable day at Wembley although it took them a penalty shoot out to do it. They will need more than a dose of luck I think to get through this tie but it will be interesting to see how they perform at the Liberty although it does feel strange sometimes that we are now a big draw to a club like York having spent so much time at a similar level to them.

We know that the Swans will take this competition seriously although as suggested in the team news below there will be plenty of changes but Garry Monk will want to give himself a decent shot at a trophy this season and will be preparing his squad accordingly.

Team News

Whilst league teams have been relatively easy to predict this season so far this game will prove far more of a challenge.

The likes of Nordfeldt, Tabanou, Bartley, Eder, Dyer, Routledge, Britton and Grimes are all likely to feature as I suspect will Angel Rangel and possibly even Ki having missed out on the last couple of games through injury.

In theory we could see a completely different side with eleven changes from the side that played against Sunderland but I am not sure that will happen although it is, as mentioned, a difficult one to predict.

Score Prediction

My attempts at a hat trick of right results went wrong when we didn't beat Sunderland on Saturday but I remain supremely confident that this time round there will be no stopping us.

The whole point of our summer transfer activity was to ensure that we had strength in depth in every position and this game is the ideal opportunity to prove that it worked that well and I cannot see anything other than a Swans win and a comfortable one at that.

Going to take a stab at 4-0 for the game with two for Eder, one for Dyer and a rare goal from Leon Britton. Too far? Possibly!

Remember there has to be a positive result one way tonight with extra time and penalties there to be had if needed but we will be safely home and dry by that point.
