Redknapp Salutes Ayew Class

Jamie Redknapp knows a thing or two about players in the Premier League thanks to his work as a Sky Sports pundit and on Saturday he got to see close up the impact of the Swans new signing Andre Ayew.

Ayew made his debut in the Swans 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and he marked his debut with a goal in the first half finishing with style after Courtois saved Gomis header from a cross by Montero.

The Swans secured the capture of Ayew back in the summer beating off competition from a host of teams and great things are expected of him this season. Garry Monk has been quick to deflect the pressure a little by saying that Ayew cannot do everything on his own but there were big promises on Saturday of a strong partnership being forged with Bafetimbi Gomis who Ayew praised after the game.

The reports in the summer suggested that we have paid Ayew a multi million pound signing on fee which is the way that football works these days with the player available on a free transfer but Garry Monk insisted again on Saturday that his decision to come to Swansea was a football one rather than one motivated by money.

And he has now got the praise of Redknapp who wrote in his Daily Mail column "His dad, Abedi Pele, was one of the greatest African footballers of all time, so he has top-class pedigree, and his brother Jordan is also a Premier League player at Aston Villa. But Andre looks like the one to watch.

"On Saturday at Chelsea he was instantly comfortable with the pace of the game, his work rate was superb and he showed some good skill. The little drag-back for his goal was class.

"In a crowded penalty area he had the composure to roll it away from John Terry and give himself room to score."
